I think it is something to do with the valet system - lock the glovebox and give the valet driver the key without the buttons on it and they can't get in the boot either.

Also worth checking that you haven't locked the glovebox. On my E46 Convertible, locking the glovebox disables the boot switch, but the keyfob still worked... Took me a while to work that one out!

Just had my TC reconditioned by a local specialist for £460 + oils + VAT.
It now drives like a new car and mpg has gone up from about 24 to near 30, except when I'm playing which is much more fun now... (3.3 cab)

I had a similar issue the other day with my E46 boot - the GLOVEBOX key also disables the boot release button. Part of the "Valet" system I think.

Spotted a blue D3 Touring with stripes leaving Tescos car park in Loughborough today.

My B3 3.3 has a valve in the right-hand pipe that opens under vacuum at higher revs/load. You can see it if you look down when the engine is off as it closes. You can also hear it open when you apply power at certain times.
