New Alpina Green D3 Bi-Turbo / Lenzie

Not often I see a car of interest when visiting the homeland so was pleased to see a rather nice D3 Bi-turbo proudly displaying its quad pipes at the corner shop next to Tom Johnstone House.

I do wonder if this belongs to the owner of the Alpina Blue B5S I spotted in the area many moons ago.

As helpfully pointed out by Winne during the Nottingham gathering, a surprise article picturing my B7 went to print in the BMW Car Magazine this month:

Supercharger aside, the issues you mention are shared with cooking spec 545s, 645s & 745s for which there's an endless supply of components sat on the shelves of breakers and forums full of handy hints. The B7s a great car no doubt but it's no Veyron in terms of maintenance costs. If I continued the...

Re: B7

I would urge great caution in purchase of the alleged B7 the one at the beginning of the post. It is a pre face lift E65 so I would say 2002-2004 possible. I does not have a B7 badge, no alpina emblem on the steering wheel, it just looks all wrong. it is massively under priced for the genuine artic...

For years I wanted that car to come up for sale - now it's too old for me to consider :(

A very nice example though. I suspect I will treat myself to something similar next year, with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

It's one of one though as far as I know!

Standard part, only costs a few pounds.

You don't need to remove the supercharger but I removed much of the casing / pipe work to get into it.

Not difficult at all, unlike the M62 V8 where you were sure to lose the skin from your knuckles!

Check your crank case ventilation valves, the two rubber diaphragms at the front of each bank.

When they split, and they will start to do so at this age then oil consumption will rise to the levels you suggest.

(mine uses 1 litre every 5-6k...)

Oddly enough I would discount a loud V8 from any selection process, that's how I arrived at Alpina. One of the reasons anyway. There is more appeal to the V8 than noise level i.e. greater refinement and typically greater pulling power at lower revs for one. Although I appreciate a ruddy great roar o...

There is a B10 V8 for sale locally for £2400 R plate but non Alpina wheels and non Alpina seats . I could buy that for a few months to scratch the V8 itch without having to sell the B3 If the weather improves I may go and see it later today Having had a few E39s (and being an avid V8 fan) I would ...

I considered moving on the B7 last year when I bought the F10 550i but couldn't bring myself to do so as despite the 550s general level of competence it wasn't in any way special. I never missed the B10 V8 Touring despite the time and money I had put in to it because the B7 was a worthy replacement....

When I bought my B10 V8 Touring there was a ruddy great hole in the boot floor, suspected corrosion from a battery leak. I had it replated and it was as good as new.

Given this bit of news it makes one wonder!

Looks lovely chap. Cooper Reading were telling me about a recent visit from a V8S when I had the B7 in last week. Was it you by any chance?
