Saturday 17th October Race 1

Claudia Hürtgen finally captures her first victory. After leading numerous times this year, Claudia won the wet and rainy Saturday weekend opener in the ADAC GT Masters series. The team of Hürtgen & Martin started from the front row in #33 BMW ALPINA B6GT3, next to pole-sitters Klingmann & Wirth in #34, the sister car. Maxime Martin shot to the front with a brilliant start, followed by Jens Klingmann in the second B6GT3. It seemed ALPINA had found the perfect suspension set-up for this wet race.

Due to the combination of set-up, an open track and the good vision it provided, the leading tandem ran 1.5 seconds apart and quickly opened a large gap to the rest of the field. The only question that remained was which of the two bright green ALPINAs would cross the finish line first. The pit stops were decisive: both cars experienced picture-perfect pit-stops, with Claudia Hürtgen re-joining the race in first place and going on to win. For Andreas Wirth in the #34 B6GT3, it was already his second ADAC GT Masters podium after his big win at the Nürburgring.

Sunday 18th October Race 2

It was a hard-fought victory. From the 2nd starting position, Claudia Hürtgen arrived at Motorsportarena Oschersleben’s first turn second behind Richard Westbrook’s Porsche. It was a tightly-packed field, with the first four cars just two seconds apart. Just before halfway, Dino Lunardi managed to squeeze his Corvette past Claudia Hürtgen, and shortly after that took over the lead. Claudia kept the #33 BMW ALPINA B6GT3 right on the Porsche’s tail, but couldn’t quite overtake. ALPINA decided on an earlier-than-planned pit stop at 30 minutes for tactical reasons, putting Maxime Martin behind the wheel at the mandatory driver change. The stop gave Maxime an open road. After the Corvette made its mandatory stop a bit later, putting Diego Alessi into the cockpit, Maxime was tight behind him, and ahead of the Porsche after the stops into second. Just one lap later, Maxime was able to squeeze past the Corvette on the front straight. Lap after lap, Martin began to extend the gap by around two-tenths of a second per circuit, capturing the weekend’s second victory for ALPINA.

The #34 B6GT3 started the race from 4th, but lost a couple of places on the start. Andreas Wirth radioed the pits about a lack of power, and the ALPINA team decided to bring him in just as soon as the pit window opened for the mandatory driver change, so that they could chase up the problem sooner. The reason was a broken hose clamp on the intercooler tubing. After a successful repair, Jens Klingmann went back out on the track in 17th place, and worked his way up to 11th, turning the race’s fastest lap in the process.

The ADAC Masters Weekend in Oschersleben was clearly dominated by ALPINA, with two victories and a 2nd place. ALPINA’s next race takes places this coming weekend in Zolder (Belgien): it’s the last stop of the FIA GT3 European Championship
