|Review:||ALPINA's take on BMW's latest 5-Series has plenty of clues about the new M5. But could the B5 be the one you ultimately choose?|
The V8's character is more evident on these twisty roads; it pulls beyond 6000rpm, exhaust back-pressure bangs ricocheting off the tress
ALPINA doesn't believe in limiters; at 190mph, just 1mph short of the max, it feels like there is more in the tank. And we're three up, with luggage.
ALPINA should feel proud of its latestB5; it may well be the most rounded, accomplished vehicle the firm has ever made. I suspect that when the M5 does come along, it will feel one notch further away from 'refined' and one closer to 'focused'. It's ride will almost certainly not match the B5's, but then it will be designed to offer the most extreme 5-series experience.
It will be fascinating to see how it compares. ALPINA considers AMG its true rival, but it's just set its best buddy a very high benchmark. M it's over to you.
