| Review: | Evo Track day (Trackday Car of the year) prep
Well it is drawing closer my fantastic Evo trackday on 19th August. My wife very kindly and generously got it me for my birthday and also somehow managed to persuade Rich into coming to.
My initial concerns were Insurance and Tyres.
Insurance Insurance wise I was convinced I would have to extra cover and a quick prising suggested it was going to be either very expensive or risky. You basically have to insure a value that you want to be covered e.g. £5k, £10k, £20k etc. The prices are pretty rediculous (you keep forgetting it is for 1 day ! Not the year - and it doesn't cover everything - so it's not even that reassuring. Furthermore they have pretty hefty excesses. (let me know if you know any different!!).
Anyhow I decided to check with my insurance company (Privilege (part of DirectLine) and to my great surprise I am actually covered !! The only restrictions are that I don't race and the laps aren't timed. RESULT!! So as some of the websites recommend it is worth checking with your insurance company first.
Tyres I have already changed my rear tyres - both prematurely. The first down to a large piece of metal that had seen fit to embed itself in the tyre. The second was a matter of time as I had a mixture on the rear of brand new one and a partly worn one. Any how the replacement tyres are now quite worn down quite a lot and will need to be replaced soon(ish) so I don't feel too bad if I make this a little sooner.
Although at £270 a pop (rear ones) it never going to be cheap.
So we're a couple of weeks away. Rich has already been down to Nurenburgring in his Clio V6 and done a couple of 'relaxed' laps to warm up. He is also warming up his site:

which should be getting going soon.
As for me I am going to have to get the car warmed up too - oil topped up, tyres checked etc.
Oil The Alp she seems to be supping oil again. About 1L / 1000 miles. I have put 12L of oil in since getting the car, in addition to the oil replaced at the 10 and 20k services. When I queried the oil usage when I first got the car, Sytner produced a letter saying it was normal for the car to use 1L/ 1000 miles. But after a while things settled down and the thirst for oil declined. So maybe it’s a blip or should I say hopefully.
