Review:Stuck behind the wheel for ALPINA at the 24h Nuerburgring

Led by Johannes Stuck, son of Touring Car legend Hans-Joachim Stuck, and World Touring Car Championship driver Franz Engstler, a number of high profile drivers will make up the ALPINA team, which will be lining up on the grid with two GT3 race cars, based on the exclusive high-performance BMW ALPINA B6 S road car. Also starting will be recent Formel BMW champion and Champcar driver Andreas Wirth and a number of Nürburgring `Nordschleife` specialists such as Michael Rebhan, Patrick Bernhardt, Ralf Schall and Marcel Engels. To compliment the team of altogether eight drivers, Andreas Bovensiepen himself (part-owner of ALPINA and son of Burkard Bovensiepen) who took overall victory at the 24 Hours of Nuerburgring in 1998, will also take stints behind the wheel of one of the bright green BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 race cars.

The recently revised regulations of the 24h race have created a class called SP9/GT3, with the roughly 20 SP9 cars having thebest chance of taking overall victory. Since this includes GT3 race cars, team boss Andreas Bovensiepen took the decision to once again have ALPINA start at the infamous and nearly 26km long race track. The small Bavarian team from Buchloe will be challenging established race teams from renowned manufacturers such as Porsche, Audi and Lexus, as it has already successfully done in the FIA GT3 European Championships. Besides battling the `big players`, ALPINA is also looking to demonstrate the reliability of its BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 in what is arguably the most gruelling and demanding 24h race for both cars and drivers alike.
