Review: | Six of the best BMWs, with six different powerplants on display: the 2006 Car of the Year shootout promises to be a classic tussle.
Featuring: ALPINA D3 vs. 335i coupe vs. 335d M Sport touring vs. Mini Cooper S Works GP vs. M6 Convertible vs. Z4 3.0si coupe.
The 3 series rules supreme, with the first three spots being held by the 335i coupe (1st), 335d M Sport touring (2nd) and ALPINA D3 (3rd).
[the ALPINA D3] was fast enough to keep up with pretty much everything, but way more economical than anything else here (over 45mpg most of the time). It was the most refined in normal driving and handled admirably. It had a simdgen of class about its looks and best of all, it showed that ALPINA's engineering skills can be applied successfully to the mass-market and that extreme luxury and performance aren't the only feathers in the company's cap
