Tyre valve?

Post by Ikule » Mon Mar 02, 2009 12:53 am

Just had wheel's refurbished and one of the tyre valves is leaking from flange, has anyone had to replace one of theirs at all?,
i have looked on the B10 3.2 parts catalogue but it doesn't show the valve, so it looks like a call to Sytners is on the cards to get the part number so my local dealer can order one

I had to get one done.
None in the UK, it was special order.
I did ask the dealer for the part number, but they never got back to me.
I think Pataket managed to get it.
Maybe if you do search for my original 'leaky valve' thread you'll get it there.

A 1/4" drive socket usually does the trick but there's not much room in the wheel recess where it fits.
If you have access to a lathe take a little off the diameter of the socket to give clearance into the recess. The valve has an O ring under it, make sure that it is sound.

Gents are we saying the whole valve can be changed without taking the tyre off ?

yes as the valve is in the center of the wheel in a threaded hole with just 2 small holes going through the spokes to get the air in to the tyre space

Yeah i was getting confused thinking that the outer section went through the wheel and screwed to an inner section like the metal ones i had on the 325i, but when i though about it the valve would stick out in fresh air next to the hub
so the valve is just screwed into a thread cut into the alloy of the wheel and as you say i will just need to nip it up or worst case replace the sealing o-ring,
possibly this is a secondary seal and the primary one would be via a tapered thread?
I need to get a long reach socket as the one i have fouls on the valve before it gets to the hexagon  i'm currently loosing about 8psi a day.

The valves fitted to my wheels stand out about 15mm and have a standard type valve, certainly not 2 holes, they do not foul the centre caps and i am pretty sure they are as from new.
The bottom half has a slotted section for aa screwdriver to assist in tightening it up.
I would definitely need to remove thetyre to fit this valve.

I'm glad someone has raised this as it's given me an excuse to moan 8)

With both a D3 and B3 BT on the fleet (with Classics) I reckoned it would be prudent to have a small number of tyre valves "in reserve". I rang Sytner Sheffield at the end of October. Parts dept weren't interested and told me to call Sytner Nottingham. No skin off my nose if they can't be bothered with my business. After a day or two they were able to confirm the part number as

B91.47.3.610.061 TYRE VALVE CONCEALED (unit price £4.79)

£24.01 for 4 delivered / ordered and paid for 5th November. I was told they would be in stock the following Friday. They were ACTUALLY sent out RM Recorded Signed For (RMRSF) on 10th January and arrived at home on 15th. Unfortunately I was away. RMRSF items are only held at your local sorting office for a week. On 11th Feb I rang Eamon at Notts Parts who informed me the packet had still not been returned to them. On 26th Feb I rang him again. He took the trouble to track the consignment: apparently all the RMRSF returns are sent to Belfast and there is currently a SEVEN WEEK backlog. So, we're now looking at the week beginning 16th March before there is even a chance of the packet getting back to Nottingham. I wonder what the loss rate is.......? Privatise RM NOW.

I can't find the words.............. Unfortunately the parts supply aspect of Alpina ownership is one thing that may turn me away from having another.
