D3 Tyres

Post by Bobby T » Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:43 pm

I'm sure this has been asked many times before but has any one replaced the tyres on a D3 recently. Whilst there is no mistaking the amazing qualities of the pilot sports I simply cannot stretch my budget to that level.

I am looking for a suggestion for a tyre as near to £150 ea which someone has had a good experience of. My front tyres have a good few miles left in them so i'm only replacing the rears at the moment.

Cheers

Make that £200. Who am i trying to Kid? There's little chance of getting much for £150 having had a quick look on Black Circles.

Are they the 18" wheels (ie 255/35/18).

On a side note: is your car parked around Dundas street on a regular basis? Very nice car! I prefer it to the white E90 M3 convertable that is often parked nearby.

I always get my quotes from Mytyres.co.uk (

Although I have used Auto-Image at fountainbridge in the past (good family business, used by some of the local dealers) or try to get a internet price match from Kwik Fit (fountainbridge again, ask for Kenny).

Many here & Alpina themselves don't like to stray from the Pilot Sports as the suspension is designed around them. However, it is up to you and it could be argued that it is less of an issue for the D3 (no crazy bhp or top speeds like the current B3 & B5 models).
The goodyear F1 is well liked (Evo and such like) and I am very happy with the toyos on my 325ti (much better than the standard tyre).

Cheers.

I think.
It's cold outside, that'll have to do.
FWIW, I'll undoubtedly go for whatever is cheapest when mine need replacing too.
I've hardly ever stuck to OE on any car (Alfas/Audis/Saabs/VW's)
I enjoy experimenting.
Although each brand/make of tyre have their own characteristics, it is my opinion, when dealing with the sorts of sizes we are here, there is no such thing as a bad tyre.

I've just gone the Cont CS3 route ... would have also used GoodYear.

It is indeed my car parked on Dundas street. Small world! The M3 is owned by a work colleague of mine. Nice car but not my style. I would have preffered a Black one and not the coupe or convertable. If my budget had been able to stretch to it, that is!

I will be going to Auto image but was keen to go along with some possible options. I reckon it won't make too much difference given the responses I have had to my various enquiries. The pilot sports are great but just too expensive to justify. I'm encouraged that most people confirm it's unlikely to make a noticeable difference what ever I go for.

Haggle! Haggle!

Last month MyTyres supplied and fitted two rears (19'') to the back of my B10 for £470, so £235 each. These are Michelin Pilot Sports and were discounted from their normal retail price of £300 each.....

....at this price I was happy to stick to the recommended rubber.

The cheapest i'd trust is the kumho tyres at about 160.
However. I'd probably get the f1 at about 215.

I'm using F1 Asymetric on the back and they are great!

I really wouldn't mix tyres, my E91 M-Sport went scatty with PS2's on the front and Falkens on the rear, as soon as they were the same all round again it was back to normal.

Just bite the bullet and put new PS2's on the rear or swap for 4 Falken FK452's, will be around £500 for all 4.

Then sell the front PS2's for £200 on ebay, they sell well.
