Hi guys,
GREAT idea :D I know that Andy (D4) and a few others, including myself are quite capable of doing the artwork/photographs.
If the others don't have the time to do it, as I know they are very busy people, and need me to do the layouts then count me in.
Obviously there needs to be a theme to the style, size, prefered calendar type etc.

Would be good to have members cars used for this though :D

I think that's a very good idea - it makes it more personal. It also means that permissions will have been gained prior to publication ...

I think its essential that the pictures are members cars.

You could run a photo competition with the prize being the kudos of having your car included in the calendar.

I am happy to help in any way I can although I dont have any of the necessary technical skills of some of the other guys.

Either way I think it would be good if some of the other members contributed to the workload rather than expecting the usual suspects to take on all of the extra work, unless of course they want to do it.

yep i've talked about a calender with a professional photographer friend of mine cause I think you need a good mix of cars over the 12 images (old and new) to capture both the ALPINA history as well as generate interest from all ALPINA fans.

the other thing to think about is size and style of the calender.. afterall a full A4 or A3 style calender may not be something we all have the need for in our homes or offices..

A neat idea IMO might be for an A5 card style calender (desk/table top style)
which would certainly be cheaper to produce - cheaper/more affordable to purchase and package for despatch..

would love to gauge views on this cause it is something we could do for 2008.

Kev - my graphic design experience is self taught (apart from my Art college days over a decade ago - and as you say time is as much of an issue as talent) so i'd personally welcome some help with the styling of such a product...
re printing and implementation depending on the final style this is something i could sort pretty easily

and I def think we could/should be able to sort in time of the turn of the year.

I don't think I have the necessary skills to help on this but I'd be happy to contribute to the site for whatever size is produced.

One good thing, like you say, is that we have LOTS of time to make a really nice job. Not something that you get very often in the commercial world lol.
The A5 size sounds good to me and there are no reasons why we cant do a good, cost effective style. I did a calendar some time ago that fitted in a cd box. It was really neat and obviously VERY easy to distribute.
Let me have a look at a few styles and I will post some details :D
It sounds really good to have the members cars and I know that the photography side is your forte Andy :D

Andy - It would be a good idea to try and use the meets to get the cars together or in a nice location. I am sure, from what I have seen, that your photoshop skills are as good as anyone else's :D
I wont be using photoshop for the layout though as it can't produce crisp edges to pixels. That is one thing that Photoshop CANNOT do (unfortunately).

I will post up some ideas to get a general feel and then I will be in touch for exactly what sort of style for artwork.
Obviously the colours to be using will be very clear, Alpina colours :D

Kev

yeah the CD box style is the sort of one i was thinking about... (much better for the home or work office where wall space isn;t always available..)

As for Photshop.. yeah I use photshop and Illustrator to produce the artwork with the final output being in EPS format which I find is the best for high res screen or digital print. (this is what I used on the recent dealer flyers)

If you get a spec and I'll get a good price...

As a day job sales chap and a publisher, although we produce a regional magazine we also dip in and help clients with other project work as required.
We actually do this as a social enterprise and if you guys have a print quantity and specification in mind and get a quote or two then I could see if I can improve on either/both. A penny saved is a penny earned (Blimey do I sound Scottish?) and could be reinvested back in to thealpinaregister.com for another project...
