I had mine refurbed rather than a new one (lock up clutch failure), they are Alpina specific and it was cheaper than any other route. Got Auto Trans Gloucester to do the whole thing as I didn’t feel like taking the box out on the drive.

I'm planning to follow Charles' lead and use Stephens Engineering in Ware to do a recon on the TC. Local transmission people always want to overhaul the complete box...

just spoke to jason at stephens (son of the boss man) and they would prefer to refurb the box given mileage and say that a TC refurb is 800 plus vat with no guarantee. box refurb from 1500 plus vat.

interestingly, the only diff bits on an alpina 5hp 19 vs a boggo 5hp 19 are valve chest and casings. i actually thought the frictions were different too?

A new torque converter from ZF was about £400 plus vat 4 years ago. I can't imagine them being a grand now and its new

800 was what I was quoted; thought that was pretty reasonable. In my case, the car's just a little over 60k so the complete rebuild likely wasn't justified.

I knew the valves/solenoids were different; the B3s TC is a different part number from the standard 330ci so I can only assume it has slightly different internals...

Be interested to know how you get on.

Bought my TC through a ZF agent near Bristol using the Alpina Part Numbers, of course at a fraction of the price from the dealer.
Let me know if you want more info.

Good heads up Kevin. Silly question is this a genuine alpina part or part made to alpina specifics ?
What is the main dealer price or Alpina price ?
