Thinking of upgrading from B3 Touring
I am considering upgrading from my E46 B3 Touring to something newer. I am not using it so much as I commute on the tube everyday and the Mrs not too keen on "old cars". We are thinking of upgrading it to something like a F30 D3 or ideally B3.
Would I regret selling the E46 B3 Touring (#113) in the future and how much do you guys think its worth? Its done 160k miles and is in good condition.

It's worth about £4million, with the price of the B3S a little higher.
Not that I have a conflict of interests when it comes to a high price .....

I must be mad to sell it then, imagine the price in a few years.Charles wrote:It's worth about £4million, with the price of the B3S a little higher.

That’s what I am thinking, maybe store it for an year but it’s a shame not use it though.hap wrote:Keep it in your collection and buy f30
Seriously though - keep it if you can.
They last forever if looked after (I've just clocked up half a million kilometres in mine!) and as has been said before, the E46 3 series is probably the best looking and best built of the generations.
It may not be quite as quick as the newer ones but the 30-70 performance is quite incredible and, in the real world, this is the one that you make use of in most conditions.
The prices of these cars, particularly the Tourings, are steadily on the rise and the moment you sign over the V5, you will regret it.

Thanks for your advice guys. I have spent fair bit to bring it up to scratch, including the full gearbox rebuild, suspension and bodywork. I will hold on to it as I will struggle to buy another Alpina touring, I missed that boat with the E30s! I will get a few niggling items sorted and just drive it more!
I will have to convince the Mrs to upgrade/downgrade from the X5 when an interesting Alpina comes along. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be many petrol variants of the newer Alpina for sale.

Having experienced E91 ownership it just doesn't feel as good as a BMW/Alpina should IMVHO
Jumping back into the E46 B3 Touring just feels like being at home Last of the properly built cars
You cannot compare the E46/E39 era of BMW with any other IMO, it was BMW at their prime and cars after while good just don't the soul or character of a proper organic drivers car. More modern variants are still good and highly effective cars don't get me wrong, just heavier, bigger and more anaesthetised.

E34 has more soul and is a better drivers car than E46/E39, have you tried an E34?Metrics wrote:you cannot compare the E46/E39 era of BMW with any other IMO, it was BMW at their prime and cars after while good just don't the soul or character of a proper organic drivers car.
