It's a heart ruling head thing.
Your love for all things touring would make it an awesome car for you and many others too, but surely re-shelled back into its original guise, especially with all the photos and history available, would make it more valuable especially in years to come.
You will be able to pick up another interior hopefully, ask Pete to keep an eye out!

So i bought a battery, thought i'd hook it up see the crack.

Nothing bar a reverse light permanently on!

Image

Quick look around no body control module or one missing

Image

One module, theres all this old alarm wiring shite everywhere also

Image

Battry on, see what i mean? Keys not even in the ignition. Oh joy

Image

A miracle! The glass tailgate struts aren't knackered

With the body control module, it did awaken a few things into life like all 4 windows which worked! central locking also. Front wipers, thats about it, but its a start i suppose. Its going to be a tough cookie, sorting the remaining electrics i think. Or get all the correct modules/ECU's fitted, clocks check tail gate wiring as they're always broken/dodgey repairs here and go from there?

I need a E34/32 535i instrument cluster if anyone has one kicking around to sell?

Sooooooooooooo this pile of excitement....

Image

Front actually looks like a car, still looks like something thats being dismantled on my drive!

Still sorting wiring very slowly but nothing happens fast when you need Phil Crouches help, saying this he has made one visit to help!

Image

Obviously the sunroof is still dead and obviously it leaks! So a bucket for now to catch the drips

Image

This back part of the clocks was missing, so Dave very kindly sent me a spare one gratis

Image

So thats about all that powers up but a start! Its missing alot of bulbs and i've exhausted all my stock so need to find alot more!

Image

This is a bi turbo type plug that needed to be in the engine bay, so i stripped it down and fed it through the bulkhead into the bay where it can be plugged in ( Phil Crouch help this is)

Image

A voila! took longer than you'd think!

Image

5 loose bi turbo wires, needing feeding back into this plug, just matching up the colours. All of this is for the alpina instrument gauge for oil temp, boost etc

Theres more but the engine bay area is still dead engine still doesn't crank over, more wiring to be sorted yet.

However on the trail to bringing the car back to life

Image

Image

I've removed the old alarm

Image

This amp was in the boot loose, i worked out it sat there and wired it back up AND!

Image

hey presto the 90's pioneer sprang back into life! tape deck, with a CD changer which makes all the right noises but doesn't seem to work with the head unit. I'll probably strip all that out and fit a more modern retro head unit. The amp powering the speakers is handy and like a pikey i'll keep that

Image

heated seats tested and both work,

Image

This is a miracle and my kind of fix, find two plugs. Plug them in and test! Hey presto the rear wiper sprang into life, then to really take the piss i tried the rear wash pump and fook me up it popped and squirted some water!

So as far as i can work out the rear tailgate wiring is all working, its been repaired in the past like all E34 tourings but its holding up. Amazing

Image

Its chaos and mentally very draining pile of shit. But i feel a bit better typing this out. Its just everywhere you turn, something is missing or un plugged/ chopped out/needs repairing etc so its very very slow going

What i'd like to really do is bolt the rims on and sort mechanicals out but thats the easy bit and until all the electrics are sorted i can't see the point.

As for the car, most of it is back up and working, like wipers, central locking, radio, windows, heated seats, fan, brake lights

To sort are indicators - hazard switch is missing obviously! headlamps, dipped beam, main beam. Wiring needs repairs in engine bay. Lots more bi turbo stuff to sort in engine back. I think getting the car cranking over will be a big point. Then it actually running will be maybe possible. I'll calm down not get a head of myself

But imagine that day you fire it up - you've done it enough on your other cars, so you know how great that will feel.

And then the day when it's complete and you can stand back and admire what you've achieved.

It will be worth it, keep the faith chap!

Nothing really, I met up with another bi turbo owner last week. Went out for a little spin just as a refresher! I was able to have a poke around on his car kindly and take some pictures mainly engine bay wise to help me along

Still waiting on Phil Crouch to help again on the wiring. The E30 and E46 have taken up time from this and i've also took that battery off and keep it in the house on the charger.
