OBD11 Scanner Coder Tool

Post by robmarrs » Thu May 04, 2017 10:32 pm

Does anybody have any experience of a good quality OBDII diagnostic scanner and coder for the E63/64 series BMW.

So many out there and electronics on cars is not my strong point, any advice as always much appreciated.

Don't have any actual experience with any but looked at carsoft as an option and seemed quite user friendly and comprehensive.
I think it depends how in depth you need to get as to what is best for your requirements. I'm sure other will chime in with their preferences in a bit.

I've had a few bmw's in my past and from my days on the 5 series forum, I got to notice this guy Jimmy - his company is called Cableshack- who provided the softwares and cabling to plug into the OBD ports.

I just looked on his website and whole shebang is now £53. He provides really good customer service and after all these years, im still very happy with it. You do need to familiarise yourself with the software but a nice bottle of claret and some YouTube videos, combined with a bit of noodling around and in no time you know what you're doing. The softwares run off windows laptops.

If you are simply looking to scan and clear codes, then the C110 works well. I've used it on my E91 325d and my E46 B3 S - it's self-contained and very simple to use (even after imbibing some nice claret :) ). Also it's available via Amazon (about £38 - link below ). It covers models up to 2012 which includes the E63/E64 - also does Minis. Hope that helps. Mike

My son got this one for our fleet

Does most codings, and it's slightly cheaper on Amazon.

im currently using a full factory spec cable with inpa, dis, tis, sss progman, navcoder etc from bmcables. its fine but some of the programs are not in english so when using inpa to view fault codes you need to translate

i do think the full fat versions are worth the money esp if you want to go down the coding route and want to see live data

I can confirm that the C110 is a very good piece of kit. The streaming live data feature is particularly handy.

We have owned one for almost a year now and it has saved us a fortune using it on the E60. You are also able to update the software via there website.
