e46 Wing Indicator

Post by bmw virgin » Fri Mar 17, 2017 12:52 am

Hi guys!

The off side front wing indicator on my b3s has stopped working, with the MOT just round the corner!

Are they sold as a complete unit? Is it a case of pushing back whilst lifting for the indicator to come off & then just unplugged, ready for a new one?

If so, I assume they can only be purchased from BMW? Any idea on cost?

Thanks in advance!

They just slide then pop out. It is probably just a bulb so there is no reason for looking at a new lamp assembly. Euro Car Parts have up to 55% off online sales if you need any parts. They have a decent OE quality lamp for about £25 before discount. But as I said check the bulb as nothing can go wrong with the lamp assembly itself. Apart from going yellow with age.

There is a pair of lamps complete with LED bulbs on eBay at the moment for £25. It does not mention the brand though.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

They look to be led units, rather than a bulb. Which makes me wonder if it's poor connection issue, as I didn't think LED's could "blow"?

LED bulbs can fail. Have a look out for the third brake lights on cars that you follow. It is not unusual to see two or more LEDs have failed.

Just slide the lamp out and then you can see what you are dealing with. Check the wires/connection also. I honestly think you will find either the bulb has failed or you have a bad connection. There is nothing else there that can go wrong. If you dont have anything that you can check the bulb or wiring with then pop the good one out also. Then plug the bad one into the good side and see if it works. That will show if it is indeed the bulb or bad connection. The lamps are handed of course so you wont be able to push them back in place before testing. They are self earthed so just let them hang there while you complete the test.
