Hello All - New E91 D3 Bi-Turbo owner
Hello All,
Just thought I'd say Hi. I've recently bought a 2010 D3 to replace my 2016 Audi RS3 that I was using for work. (30k miles per annum doesn't mix with an RS3...).
My D3 needs some love but so far I'm enjoying it.
Its a 2010 plate car on 68k miles. Build number 19.
A little list of what it needs:
Front respray (The last spray job it had to cover some chips up was done in the wrong silver...)
New badging all round (Bought)
New grills on the front (Bought)
New wipers (Bought)
New gas struts on the boot (Bought)
New side repeaters (Bought)
Possible additions:
New black Deco striping (Not sure where to get this from)
New Headlights (I'm not happy with the discolouration of the top plastic)
Should keep me busy for a while. I'm having more fun in it that I did in my 2014 335d X-drive too!

Yes all the parts are dealer parts so far. Not cheap!Arvi wrote:Great looking car ! Hope you enjoy the ownership. Did you get the repeaters and boot badge from a dealer?
How was the RS3 day to day (apart from fuel). Been toying with getting a S4/S5 but the Alpina exclusivity pushes me to stay with what I have !
The RS3 was great. Averaged 34mpg over 29000 miles. Decently fast, but they do drive like a 400bhp Diesel A3 which isn't exactly exciting. The Alpina is a better steer.
They are only quicker than an X drive 335d during a proper launch and from maybe 120mph onwards.E24man wrote:I was interested in your RS3 opinions as a friend has one; he's taken me out in it a couple of times and properly caned it on one occasion .... and I didn't have the heart to tell him it didn't seem much quicker than our 335d xdrive. The figures show it's quicker off the start but the in gear stuff wasn't as quick as I thought/hoped/anticipated and he's a decent enough driver (he's done Le Mans, the real thing) but it's horses for courses and as an ex-race driver he much prefers petrol over diesel.
335d X drives are special buses, I did 43k miles in mine in 14 months.
Nice purchase. I had build number 4, the first E91 lci touring in to the UK, yours must have been very close behind.
I'd highly reccommend getting the car a KDSII set up and giving the BMW desalership who undertake it the supplementary manual. Had mine done and it really transformed the handling, took it back to how it was when it came out of the factory.
Also check out my thread on changing the bulbs for the angel eyes, the effect of changing them is very dramatic and gives the car a far better look as they look more like DRLs than the yellow (my alternators failing) effect.

Nothing to see here.... move along in an orderly fashion please!

Little update:
New tyres soon to be fitted.
New gas struts fitted.
New discs and pads fitted.
New centre cap badges fitted.
Now for the big stuff....
Booked into BMW for a re spray of the 90% of the car. As the perfectionist in me isn't happy with it.
It will be coming back to me at the end of April hopefully factory fresh. Then it'll be just a wheel re furb away from perfection.

My friend is the head sprayer(ist?) there so he will be doing it for the cost of materials plus a bit of money for the new trim and his time.Metrics wrote:Wow, Waitey, way to go!
What sort of money are they taking off your hands for painting 90%?
Far cheaper than retail rates.
The book value for the work I'm having done is £4600....
