Not as thirsty as my 4 pot E36 1.8 Touring. 25mpg is about the best it can manage. Where the B.3 will do 32mpg comfortably.
A very spooky/haunting picture though. Single car on an empty forecourt. Was it taken in the early hours?

Mine is a lot thirstier than my brothers Manual M3 infact we have been comparing this week and this is a Pic he took of his result.Elan wrote:I am currently averaging 19 mpg which is much worse than the M3.
I have Never seen better than 300 to a Tank. Which by my reckoning is 22 MPG

That sounds more like I would expect. There surely cant be that bigger difference between the 3.2 and 3.3/4Charles wrote:Currently averaging 26mpg on summer tyres and generally get 28mpg on winters.

well i'd love to know how your e36 does 32mpg because thats about the limit on my manual car on a normal run.
If you can get over 400 miles to a tank full in the e36 then you getting a genuine 30+MPG. About 330 miles max mine managed as an auto as its 5 speed and geared up short.
I've had 450 miles to a tank as a manual doing the same motorway work which worked out to 34 mpg. In short i'm finding it hard to believe!
If your doing steady driving everywhere and not much start stop then i'd expect higher, town driving kills it

Yep checked it several times just to make sure. Between 32 and 34. But that said we don't often drive it hard.simon13 wrote:well i'd love to know how your e36 does 32mpg because thats about the limit on my manual car on a normal run.

Two observations.
My old E46 M3, many moons ago I travelled up from Surrey to Blackpool and back, got over 30 mpg average for the journey.
Yesterday, i drove the B6 up to Gateshead. I havent checked the mpg but a) i got there with one tank of petrol with a further indicated range of 50 miles. Filled her up, and the range is indicating 450 miles based on that fill up. The driving conditions were pretty good where mostly i was cruising at 80 give or take. I was/am impressed.

My M3 is manual and on a trip to the Loire valley(in-laws) averaged 33mpg. That was mainly motorway speed but did have spirited drive with some cars traveling to Le Mans!
I would say even the 997Turbo is easier on the fuel than the B3.
