Two bucket method wash

Post by scalesg » Wed Feb 03, 2016 7:48 pm

Hi all!

I tried this today for the first time.

Takes longer but oh my, did not realise how dirty the water got before trying this!!! And that was jet washing the dirt off the car beforehand, and the car wasn't even that dirty to start with!! And before I did the wheels too!!

I will using this method forevermore!!

I have been using that method for years :D

For those that prefer the single bucket method, then you can get a plastic grill that just sits proud of the bottom so that you don't pick up any grit.

I did see those, but quite a bit of money for a bucket.... I bought two new ones from B&Q for £2 (for both) and they (Adams) recommend having two of them!!

Maybe I will save that expense for the future :-)

Yes you could get 7 and a bit buckets from BnQ for the same price.
Anyone tried the 7 bucket method?

For me 5 cars=10 buckets. Or 1 big bucket and a hose pipe

I favour the 2 bucket method rather than a grit guard. My mitt only goes into the picket above the quarter mark so most sediment should be at the bottom.

I rest my mitt on the side of the bucket so unless your leaving your mitt inside it, does it actually work?

ps Power Maxed Traffic Film remover is amazing pre-wash to get rid of a lot of crud before your mitt touches the paintwork.

7 bucket method?! haha!!

"One size fits most" for the grit guard. Loving the honesty :-)

And I also rinsed the cloth in the top part of the bucket so as to not get it contaminated.

Thanks for the tip on the TFR too!

As an expert detailer one told me you just need deep buckets amd common sense. Don't dip your wash mitt/pad all the way in. Don't disturb the dirt on the bottom.

I like a second rinse bucket, but only because I don't use the buckets for wheels. Always wring the pad outside the bucket...remove the dirt from the cycle.

Having said that grit guards are good for damage limitation...would never say not to use them, it's just that they do stick it to you for a couple of buckets and some plastic...sometimes £50 for two buckets!

You can make your own grit guards for pennies.

My B&Q buckets are not deep, and yes, it makes sense to have deep ones I guess

I like the wring it outside of the bucket, makes sense too!

One set of buckets I was looking at was £59.98!!!

Hmm, make your own, interesting!!
