I have had a couple of 750iLs and both averaged around 25 mpg but my driving is fairly docile albeit mixed. I suspect you would get better economy from an E38 V12 than an E60 M5 but it's a different experience. The V12 is a strong engine but dwarfed by modern cars in terms of performance. The E65 745i is quicker than the E38 750iL.

James

Customer who lives close to me has an E66 760li, I've worked out its easier fuelled than the M5, and only 50bhp-ish less!

But the driving experience will chalk and cheese between an M5 and an e66 760. The M5 will be a harder riding beast with matching engine character and the 760 will waft in silence on a pillow of air, but still rapidly if required!
