Hi
Would anyone bother paying for a HPI check if buying a used (demonstrator) from a BMW main dealer?
Cheers

Dealers do a HPI check when they buy a car to ensure a) it has not been subject to an insurance write off b) its not stolen & c) to ensure that there is no outstanding finance.

Though a HPI is never final. The dealer I work at brought a vehicle in from another trader HPI clear & a week later the vehicle was seized by police after they picked it up on ANPR driving past.... It was stolen from someones house with keys & log book whilst they were away on a long holiday. Hence the HPI coming up clear when we brought it from the other trader....

I bought my D3 fully aware it was Cat d stolen recovered, as my mileage wipes any resale off them anyway. Did a hpi, but it came back clean. Had to do another from a different company to show the cat d details. Wasn't worth the paper it was printed on, complete waste of money. Pot luck I reckon as to whether you get a truthful report.

If I made a claim for loss of value, do you reckon I'd get anywhere, considering the car was advertised as such? Long shot Id say...

you possibly might depending on the wording of your HPi supplier as some will guarantee up to £10k back if their report turns out to be false

The HPI Guarantee excludes any loss you suffer which is not a reasonably foreseeable consequence of us providing the inaccurate or incomplete information to you.

That covers them I guess, as I knew it was one.

Still a waste of money from that company.
