Is £1100 reasonable? I have no idea....

Post by Easy-pd » Wed Dec 24, 2014 10:54 am

As I am lazy, I insure my d3 mt through my business policy. It costs about £1100 which I reckon is steep. I may actually pull my finger out next year and insure privately if it is cheaper than the bill on my tax return.

I do 38000 miles though, but otherwise full ncb etc.

Is £1100 steep, or about right. I have no clue...

Sounds expensive to me - but then you are using it for business use (I assume).

Even so, I pay £250 for the B3S and I cannot imagine adding business to that will quadruple the premium ...

Might be worth shopping around, methinks

Sounds very expensive even depending on your age/area etc.

We have full business use on Mrs. Mark's Mercedes and it doesn't cost an extra penny. I can't say she has an unblemished driving record and it's still only £250 to insure comprehensively (2008 C180 Kompressor).[/list]

My 2009/09 B3BT is about £300 to insure, including business use. I live in Gloucestershire and have 3 points.

I ended up with LV this year but I always shop around. Loyalty is a byword for mug in the insurance business! I usually end up changing companies every year as the renewal quote will always go north on the 2nd year. The original company may better another quote but I won't go with them on principle. With Alpinas it means abit of time on the phone as the online systems don't know what they are! But the effort is always worth it in the end.

Crap! Just a quick go on compare the market says 351. Even if I take into account the insurance goes on my p11d, so I just pay the tax I'm still down

You only make this mistake once, call it an expensive lesson learned and roll on next year and bin your current insurers.

Hi,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
Regards,

As I've used the business fleet policy for a few years, I apparently cannot prove my 12 year no claims. I am treated as a new driver again. Most insurers say no. To their credit Adrian flux were able to quote (and I have to say the service was good on the phone) but the cost:£2284 for a 2l diesel. Ouch.

May as well stick with my extortionate fleet policy at 1100, at least it covers any driver I want, irrespective of age etc (just don't tell my son!)

Ooooof.

Did you try Chris Knott? Don't know if they can help with your specific scenario but I've always found them willing to consider slightly unusual situations.

Call put in, talking to underwriters. Fingers crossed. They also cannot take my ncd, but will discount the equivalent with a bit of luck, if I can show them proof.

Cheers for the pointer...

A bit of a result £980, although still a bit much for a 38 yo with no accidents or claims I think. Still a grand saving I guess. Cheers.

I think I'll hold out for the fleet renewal, as if it's not gone up for a few quid extra, I get other driver privileges.
