My annual dance with Admiral

Post by Charles » Wed Sep 18, 2013 8:32 pm

Two years ago and we insure all three cars with Admiral, including a 19 yo German AuPair - quoted about £1100

Last year, auto renewal (with AuPair removed so only two drivers) and quoted £1200, but presented an identical quote in my wife's name at £830 which was honoured.

This week, auto renewal comes in at £1130 - no change in circumstances except a year older all round - and quote in my wife's name reveals a price of £711.

I haven't had the conversation with them yet but at least I was expecting a stupid number

Why do they do this when they have evidence that I will shop around? I can understand that some people just take what they are given but this is clearly not very clever on their behalf.

No 19yo on the policy now - just me and the wife.

The day after getting the quote online, Admiral call us up, comment on the online quote and refer to the auto-renewal, saying that they assume we would like the lower price

My renewal with Admiral is £587 this year, that`s over £100 up on last years price ! (Again nothing changed ,just another years no claims)

I went on confused and Admiral never even came up !!

The best i got was with Elephant at £307 , which is owned by Admiral !!
should be interesting phone calls today

So, after further negotiations, the final renewal for all three cars is £650 :D

Bit of a difference from the auto-renewal figure of £1180

Ive just phoned Admiral to cancel my auto renew for tomorrow, they asked why, I told them about Elephant quote they matched it instantly once i gave them the ref number .

Its just a big con how they can just knock 280 off just like that

£280 :?:

How about £530 or 45% reduction :!:

I agree with you - it's clearly designed to catch out those who can't or won't take the time to shop around.
