B3 3.3 Coupe #170 - For Sale

Post by James_G » Mon Sep 09, 2013 12:14 am

Having taken the opportunity to order an M135i during a recent dealer price promotion, reluctantly, my Alpina B3 3.3 is now for sale.

My car was ordered by the original owner in metallic Orient Blue and contrasting grey leather and is number 170 of 274 B3 3.3 Coupes produced. Unlike a lot of Alpinas it wasn’t ordered with wood trim on the dash and instead has very fetching pale leather dash trim instead. In addition to the standard specification of a B3 3.3 Coupe, which is already very high, my car benefits from the following options:

- BMW Professional head unit
- BMW Loudspeaker upgrade
- 6 CD changer
- Electric rear blind
- Heated seats

The car was built in November 2000, was first registered in April 2001 and is based on a 330Ci, meaning it has bigger brakes, the later style wheels and a more modern steering wheel compared to earlier B3 3.3 cars.

Service history is almost complete and I have a folder of all servicing paperwork covering items that have been done since 2006 to date. Here’s the detail:

23/01/2001 – PDI, Sytner BMW, Nottingham
01/04/2001 -- First Registration, John Clark BMW, Dundee
17/01/2002 -- Oil Service @ 13,313 miles, John Clark BMW, Dundee
20/02/2003 -- Brake Fluid @ 15,961 miles, Sytner BMW, Nottingham
07/02/2004 -- Inspection 1 @ 22,451 miles, Sytner BMW, Gerards Cross
24/03/2005 -- Brake Fluid @ 29,545 miles, Sytner BMW, Gerards Cross
01/06/2006 -- Oil Service @ 36,398 miles, Dick Lovett BMW, Hungerford
27/11/2008 -- Inspection 2 @ 55,131, Dick Lovett BMW, Hungerford
03/10/2012 – Oil Service @ 70,322, Mill Stream BMW Specialists, Guildford

In discussion with a previous owner, I was informed that there was a service carried out in 2010 during which time the discs and pads were also changed. Alas this wasn’t stamped in the book and the supporting paperwork was mislaid, so I only have his word that this was done. Since owning it I have carried out a brake fluid change and an oil and filter change using BMW parts and Castrol oil.

Current mileage stands at 76,700 and the car is showing 7,500 to the next service or just over one year whichever is sooner.

Tax runs until 31st August 2014 and the MOT until 27th May 2014.

I have owned the car since May this year, having bought it locally here in Guildford. It was my intention to keep the car for some time so I had started on a process of replacement of worn parts and minor improvements, which includes the following:

Front brake caliper pistons and seals replaced
Front control arms replaced
Front control arm bushes replaced
Front dampers replaced
Rear trailing arm bushes replaced
Rear dampers replaced

I then had a full alignment done to bring everything back to manufacturer specification. I have also kept all the parts that I removed from the car, so any new owner can check their provenance. Unfortunately I won’t now get the benefit of these changes but it does mean the hard work has been done for the next owner.

Overall condition of the car, as you can see from the photos is excellent. I am fastidious about both the maintenance and the cleanliness of my cars and it has benefitted from being garaged throughout my, admittedly short, ownership. The paintwork is in very good condition and there are no scuffs or scratches. The only exception to this is a small area of rust on the OS front wing, which is unfortunately an increasingly common issue with E46 BMWs. The car is completely original, with the correct alloy wheels, exterior styling and interior trim right down to the airbag warning sticker on the windscreen. Unfortunately it came to me without the Alpina specific manuals and second key and despite contacting the last three previous owners, I have not been able to track these items down.

All tyres have great tread levels, 6mm at the front and 5mm at the rear. The wheels themselves are also in good condition with no rim damage but the wheel centres could definitely do with a refurb.

Finally the car is available for viewings in central Guildford.

Price: £5,500

Thanks Mark. New owner is going to use it in addition to his E39 530i Sport Touring so going to a good home I think.
