First of all the news about Richard Hammond is a bit of a shock to say the least. It reminds me that we can get a little secure about the risks we take. I don't know too much details but it appears:

"One of the parachutes had deployed but it went on to the grass and spun over and over before coming to a rest about 100 yards from us."

It seems it was the final run of the day.

All we can say is we wish Richard the best.

i hear his situation has improved over the night - though the hospital has said that he had sufferred a significant brain injury.

I do hope he recovers fully but also think that regardless of this it will change the look of programmes like TopGear forever.

When I first heard the news I thought that he had no chance but it sounds like he may pull through - but with what quality of life?

Hopefully the injury is not permament but we will just have to wait and see.

Sad but probably true. Despite the fact that Hammond et al are not forced to do such stunts - it's their choice at all times.

Currently the H&S Exec are sticking their nose into the whole affair and no doubt the PC brigade will use this as another reason why we should all be walking around in environmentally friendly clothing and hugging trees every five minutes.

Interestingly, I read this morning that James May was originally "in the seat" for this one but they swapped because May had a diary clash.

Love and best wishes to The Hamster and his family
