ALPINA in attack mode and looking for the lead at the Sachsenring, Germany

The Sachsenring combines fast corners, challenging up- and downhill sections and great crowds of spectators – it is also the venue of the third round of the ADAC GT Masters (8th-10th June). Reigning ADAC GT Masters Champion Dino Lunardi (F) and Maxime Martin (B) want to reclaim the championship lead on this circuit which is also home to the German MotoGP. After two rounds, the rapid ALPINA duo is second in the championship, just one point behind the leaders.

ALPINA still has a score to settle at the Sachsenring, the BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 having fought for victory in both races last year but not finishing. After a strong run in the first four races of this season, Lunardi and Martin are looking to set the record right. Martin, who travels to Germany with a recent victory in the European Endurance Championship under his belt, has some great memories of the Sachsenring. In 2011, the Belgian won a FIA GT1 World Championship race there describing it as “medium length, narrow, very challenging and a real driver’s track“. Martin says “our BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 has proved to be very competitive, the team did brilliant job so far and Dino and myself are a good driver combination. At the last round at Zandvoort, a technical issue denied us from taking victory, but we solved this problem and are looking forward to a hopefully successful weekend”.

“It will not be an easy weekend for us, we are still optimising the set-up”, Dino Lunardi says. “If we find a good balance, I think we can be quick. The track should not be too bad for us and we both know it from last season, we can immediately start racing”.

“We showed a good speed on the Sachsenring last season and proved our BMW ALPINA is quick on this difficult circuit“, ALPINA´s Andreas Bovensiepen says. “After our good results so far this season, we hope for a good result at the Sachsenring too, but we have to cope with a handicap. The organisers reduced the air restrictor´s diameter by 14% to 60mm. This reduces the power output of our 5 litre ALPINA V8 engine. We don’t know yet, how this will affect our lap times. At the same time, the performance of some of our competitors has improved. Therefore we see the Mercedes SLS AMG very strong and considering the special characteristics of the Sachsenring, the mid-engineed cars like Audi R8, Ferrari 458 and McLaren MP4-12C are expected to be quick, too.”

The ALPINA customer team LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler will also enter the second BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 for Florian Spengler and Johannes Leidinger.

The two races from the Sachsenring are broad casted live in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by kabel eins. The pan European motorsport channel will show both rounds of the ADAC GT Masters from the Sachsenring on June 13th at 21:00 hours with several repetitions the following days.

Some driver quotes following fee practice

Maxime Martin (# 1 ALPINA BMW ALPINA B6 GT3): "In the first free practice session we had a little trouble with the grip, the track was quite dirty, but it is now, of course, throughout the day keeps getting better.."

Dino Lunardi: (# 1 ALPINA BMW ALPINA B6 GT3) . "We are not satisfied, however, the balance is still not quite in the car I think the problem may have all, for we attribute this to the fact that the distance still quite dirty. "

Apologies for bad translation off site !

Sounds like 1 session has been used to decided the order for both races...

Sounds like

ALPINA will start in 3rd on Saturday

and 3rd on Sunday

This is based on the following Press release on the ADAC website:

Leader Alessi / Keilwitz with double pole
Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz start in her Corvette into the race on Saturday and Sunday at the Sachsenring from pole position.

Perfect start to the Sachsenring weekend for the league leaders: Diego Alessi (40 I) and Daniel Keilwitz (22, Villingen / Callaway) start in their Corvette in the race on Saturday and Sunday at the Sachsenring from pole position. While Alessi without a fight after a Qualifyingabbruch in the first qualifying session captured the pole position for the first race to Keilwitz claimed in the highly competitive, 39 vehicles strong field of the second qualifying session for race two. This 23 Super sports car were within one second. "Better is it not," Keilwitz cheered after his third pole position in the "league of super sports cars."

Diego Alessi will start a second time from top spot
Diego Alessi came without a fight (40 I, Callaway Competition) in his second pole position of consequence. Qualifying for the first race on Saturday had to be canceled after five of 40 minutes duration. The reason was an accident by Carsten Tilke (28, Munich / uhc Prosperia speed) in the Audi R8. The son of racetrack architect Hermann Tilke was unhurt in the accident, however, the barriers were damaged.

Since the FIA GT Championship Regulations in the event of a Qualifyingabbruchs does not provide for recovery, the starting lineup for the first race takes place on Saturday, according to the current standings. Thus Diego Alessi will start from pole position and shares the front row with Simon Knap (23, NL / DB Motorsport). From the second row start ADAC GT Masters defending champion Dino Lunardi (33, F / ALPINA) in the BMW ALPINA B6 and Maximilian Götz (26 Uffenheim / MS kfzteile24 Racing Team) at the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

Scarce duel between Keilwitz and brother
Exciting The battle for top spot in the second qualifying session. Dominik Schwager (35, Munich / Schubert Motorsport) put in the BMW Z4, the first serious personal best, but was then replaced at the head of Keilwitz. The BMW driver attacked again, but had to with .166 seconds behind the league leaders with the Corvette starting place to settle.

"I'm right at the start of qualifying, out on the track, gently warmed and then my tires did fit my first flying lap at once," I was pleased Keilwitz. "A gift of a first grid position and moved out poles are a good starting point for the two races."

The runner-in-law was not dissatisfied with his starting spot in the front row and is looking forward to two races: "The power density of this weekend is very high, so we did not expect to be in the front row are certainly very exciting. race, the spectators on Saturday and Sunday get offered a lot. "

From the second row to go on Sunday Maxime Martin (26, B / ALPINA) in the BMW ALPINA B6 and Christopher Mies (22, Holy House / uhc Prosperia speed) in the race. A strong debut celebrated Mirko Bortolotti (22 I / Schubert Motorsport) in the ADAC GT Masters: In his first race in a sports car was the reigning Formula 2 champion in the BMW Z4 instantly on the fifth place.

So far, Schulze-best qualifying for Nissan's home game
Over a prelude to the successful home game can also be the Nissan Motorsport team Schulze forward. Tobias Schulze (30, Tagewerben) qualified for eleventh place start and made it for the team from near Leipzig for the previous best starting position with the Nissan GT-R in the FIA GT Championship.
