Hi Neil,

Except that (similar to Sytner Chigwell), when the docs came through they had it down as a B3. No its a B10. "Whats one of those then?" Much muttering and keyboard clicking later: "Is it a 2 dr?". Nope. "Is it an import, 'cos we don't cover imports" What, like a B3 etc etc etc. All sorted in the end and a further 50 quid off for upping the excess to the same as I was paying previously with BMW.

On the M5 messageboard site, I made the same 'observation' about Sytner Chigwell not knowing what a B10 was. The same could not be said of their colleagues at Sytner City in Stratford who were exceptional in their customer service, outstanding with their product knowledge, surprisingly inexpensive when it came to billing and <deep breath> perhaps the best car service experience I've ever had.......Recommend them.

Your car - Alpina Roadster S
Your age - 35
Location (approx) - Warwickshire
No claims discount - 9 years
Other people insured too - No
Insured with which company - Tesco
Direct or through broker - Direct
How much is it costing - £685.00

I've been with Tesco for the past 4 years and they were always competitive with the TVR's. This is £250.00 cheaper than my last Tuscan.
"She who must be obeyed" is with them as well for her Fiat.

28yrs
3yr NCB on company cars
no points
1998 E36 B3.3 Coupe
East Sussex
30,000pa plus class 1 biz use
Tracker fitted

Wait for it......

Anywhere between £1700 and £3000

By comparison, my - 98 328i Coupe (the car the B3 is based on and what I currently have) is.... £800 for the above requirements.

Another comparison - 97 M3 Evo = £1250.

Ridiculous really...

Still shopping, I will have a B3!!!

After receiving some info through the post from more>than I tried ringing them for a quote as once again my car ('98 E39 B10 3.2) did not exist on their database when trying via the web.
After a few questions they decided my car was modified and an import so I then explained that my car was based on a BMW 5 series and imported to the UK by Sytners to which I was then told that confirms it must be modified and they don't cover this type of car or imports.
I then asked if they listed any Alpina's at all. Yes was the reply, we cover the B3 3.2 model! Excuse me madam that is the same engine as in my car so why isn't mine on the list? Yours is modified sir and the B3 isn't was the reply so I realised I was on the road to nowhere and decided it was time to give up.
The final comment from the "helpful" young lady was are you satisfied with our service, guess what my reply was?
NO.

Now I'm waiting for my renewal quote from Direct Line before I even contemplate trying other companies as I have had similar hassles to this in the past.

Any similar stories or names of companies that won't give me similar grief when ringing for a quote? How about Norwich Union as I keep hearing they are great value for M5 owners.

It's that time of the year again!

2003 B3S Touring
30k miles pa (SDP & Class 1 business use)
Fully comp and protected full NCD
Me (SP30 May 03)
Wife (SP30 Oct 01)

Have just phoned 4 insurers and her's what we found:

Norwich Union Direct (current insurers and also covering wife's car):
£941 with £30 cashback to come ( £520 excess)

Adrian Flux
admitted they couldn't get near NU quote

First Alternative
£1595 (£500 excess)

Privilege
£1418 (£500 excess)

Well done Norwich Union - they get my business again this year.

Even better news, this is the third year I have insured the car and it started at £1200, last year was £1150 and this year is over £200 cheaper. I should be happy but I think it means I am getting older :(
Charles
Teacher of Chemistry and driver of ALPINAs - not necessarily in that order ;)
B3S Touring (49/116) - been to the moon and now on the way back!
Renault Grand Espace - not mine but the wife's!

Try Directline, ITs even better when they list your car which these Guys do, I have found some other insurers Match it up, then want you the customer to list everything about the car, which always worries me incase I leave something out and have to make a claim.

Alpina Insurance

Post by newey » Wed May 18, 2005 3:52 pm

I don't yet own an Alpina. I am investigating a B10 3.3

I have spoken to a number of insurance companies and I have found Privilege to offer the best quote.
After reading this forum I contacted Adrian Flux, who were very helpful, but told me that they would not be able to offer a very good price until I ha owned the vehicle without crashing it for at least a year. Maybe next year, then.

Car: B10 3.3 (1999 on the V)
Value: approx 13K
My age: 29
Location: Too near to Luton (Along with my age, this probably causes the problem)
No Claims: 3 Years (Ex company car driver)
Licence issues: SP30 (3 points + £60)

Best price: £1425 with Privilege

Thinking of moving further away from Luton and waiting the four months until I am 30!!!

If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know.
