Some more D3 question from a potential buyer
Some more D3 question from a potential buyer
HI,
Several weeks ago I posted a thread on here explaining that I was looking at changing my E92 M3 for an E90 D3 as need to save some money. However, as my car is in negative equity the deal fell through. However, I went to BMW's VIP event today and the deal could be back on and so I have a few more questions and any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm on a time limit so quick replies would be great.
Is the servicing CBS, a combination of CBS and set service intervals, or just set service intervals eg annual or mileage dependant? If it's CBS can you call up the dates, mileage, how much you have left on the break pads etc as you can with the idrive system on the M3, and if so where's this displayed?
If some or all of the service is mileage/time dependant what are the intervals, and what would the approximate costs be of each of these?
Does the D3 have parking sensors fitted as standard as there seems to be conflicting info?
Am I right in thinking the standard stereo is the basic BMW business stereo with single CD? If so can you get an alpine system for it, and any idea how much this would cost to retro fit? ALternatively how easy is it to fit an aftermarket system? I'm assuming it wouldn't be as complicated as the M3 as the D3 doesn't have the idrive system?
Sorry for all of the questions

On my D3 MT the service interval is mileage based I think it works out approx 18,000 miles so every two years.
The service details can be accessed to check pads etc.
Yes, it has rear parking sensors and the radio fitted is BMW Professional with single cd.
Hope this helps and that you will enjoy a D3 if you get one

Snerkler, just confirm we're talking D3 Mono-turbo, not the current D3 Bi-turbo as equipment is different.
As Bri-E states, it's CBS so 2yrs, approx 18k miles.

Re: Some more D3 question from a potential buyer
For most things, it's miles or set date, whichever comes first. I do around 6-7k miles per year, had service 3-4 months ago and the next scheduled one is in Dec 2012. Sytner has a discount for "older" cars, can't remember if it's over 3 or 4 years old. Unfortunately have no idea where my receipts are as we moved the house so it's boxed somewhere. Microfilter is cheapest @ around £60 and I guess DPF should be the most expensive one and ~£1200 but with a little bit of luck that should not come before you hit 100-120k miles. Brake pads are sensor based so depends how you drive.
You have a service menu, works like the wiper one. Just find service, press the button and flick through. Ask salesman about it, the same on all BMWs without iDrive
It wasn't standard at the beginning but it seems that it became soon after. I have it and it seems all later ones do have it, too.snerkler wrote: Does the D3 have parking sensors fitted as standard as there seems to be conflicting info?

Thanks for all the replies guys. It's a 57 plate so the mono turbo if that makes a difference regarding the parking sensors?
So the stereo's BMW professional, not business? Is the professional system Harmon Kardon like on the M3?
What is the DPF service? The car won't be anywhere near 100k in my ownership. Would it be fair to say that servicing over a 4 year period will be much cheaper than the M3?

DPF - diesel particulate filter which has a 'lifetime' around 100k (depending on usage). Yes, your servicing will be much cheaper than your M3 - just a bit more than a standard 2litre diesel costs. The professional system is fitted to the BT - it is not Harmon Kardon, but it's pretty ok.snerkler wrote:So the stereo's BMW professional, not business? Forgot to mention mine is November 2007 model so 57 plate.
I change the oil filter every 6 months, then oil + filter every 12 months due to low mileage.

Is this the recommended interval. Filter change every 6 months and oil every 12 months seems a bit excessive to me, or is this normal for Diesel (I've never owned a Diesel)?Bri-E wrote:Forgot to mention mine is November 2007 model so 57 plate.

Does anyone know the ball park figure to the warranty question, ie how much it costs for a years extended BMW warranty. I know it's individually based but a ball park figure would be useful. The car I'm looking at is a 57 plate with 33,700 miles. Does the warranty go up considerably after 60,000 miles like other BMW's?
Cheers
On a seperate note I've checked the box to be notified when a reply is posted but I'm not getting any notifications (emails), does anyone know why?
No, the recommended interval is to follow what the OBC says, but some owners choose to do it more often. Same with every car really, there will always be people who want to change their oil more frequently for piece of mind or because of particular circumstances.
Why not ask BMW for the costs of extending the warranty? That would seem to be the best way of getting the most accurate and up to date information

I have a 2007 07 plate D3 MT and stereo is Business not Professional. I believe that all came with Business unless upgraded. The extended warranty in the summer was £962 so I decided against it as it has been supberb. Hope this helps. Mine is reluctantly for sale if anyone is interested.
