American Muscle ?

Post by B10BRW » Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:04 am

When I collected my Hire Car from Boston I was upgraded to a Pontiac G6 GT, spent the next week driving mainly around Cape Cod and a couple of long trips to Rhode Island and North Massachusetts.

Typical American 4 speed slush box, but I thought the performance was poor for what I thought was a 2 litre 4 cylinder with about 140 bhp.
I was amazed when I checked the spec to find I had a 3.5 litre V6 churning out about 220 bhp.
How do the Americans produce such rubbish cars, on even slightly wet roads it wanted to head towards the nearest tree, steering in a straight line was interesting :?
I can understand now why I only returned only 20 MPG albeit American gallons.
And of course it was Fugly :(

Interesting kickdown, the only noticeable difference was the noise, it got louder but progress was pedestrian.

If you enjoy driving don't go to the States, I was very tempted to take my
B10 for a couple of months, but I think I would explode with frustration
If you think we have road hogs, try to overtake cars all doing 55 mph in all 3 lanes.

Please do not forget that the Americans have designed and built some WONDERFUL
machinery

listen to the following
a clip that a sound team made of my 1968 race camaro for an undisclosable project!

notwithstanding due acknowledgement of some real horrors built since!!

Take it back, and ask for a G8 GT. Basically the same as my wifes car, you should find it a little more rapid. 8)

I have now. I thought it was odd, that the hire company still had cars from the now defunct Pontiac.

Driving in the USA

Post by Mike Pitt » Sun Aug 07, 2011 9:57 am

I visit the US on a regular basis, and have a half share in this:

Cadillac Eldorado 1971.

Amazing to drive, totally different to my UK cars 8)

8.2 litres, front wheel drive, and room for 8 people! Not for shrinking violets!
