Sorry for late reply, not been getting any email notifications.. Cars very nearly ready had a issue with emissions on the MOT so had to order a Lambda Sensor so fingers crossed it should be fine now, all being well it will be MOT’d by the end of the week.

Here’s the picture of rear end, I managed to salvage the original badges in the end.

Ok so just a quick update, the cars now MOT’d finally sorted after a new oxygen sensor.
Just valeted and was going to take some photos and the heavens opened so I haven’t bothered!

Anyway if anybody is interest of know of anyone interested in buying a B5, I will be advertising the car at £14,750. If someone from this forum wants it I will take £14,000 knowing it’s going to stay with a Alpina Enthusiast

Thanks Ryan
P.S I will get some photos when it’s dry

Much appreciated, I’ve tried to be as honest as possible with the ad. Hopefully she’ll find a new home pretty soon! Thanks for all the help and tips

Posts are correct in my view. The element of risk for supercharger failure is disproportionate to to the price being asked for the car. Lets say it is 15K as an example then the supercharger is 33% of the value of the car.

Even with full service history the fully comprehensive BMW warranty to include the supercharger cannot be obtained. If it could I would expect the monthly premium to be in excess of 200 per month based on what I pay for mine.

Sounds like it has not been cherished, difficult market to sell this for high price in my view.

A close look car has Bridgestone tyres fitted, I believe that ALPINA only had tested and fitted michelin tyres. Some insurance policies whereby car has been insured correctly as an ALPINA as opposed to base model ( as mistake made by some I am told) specifically say tyres "in accordance with manufacturers instruction". Therefore If I was buying a new full set of boots would have to come off the price.

I bought it from a member on here, who I had bought a Porsche 996 GT2 from a year or two before. I sold it in August 2009 to a Nissan dealer when it was part-exchanged against a Nissan GTR.

During my ownership it was used as a family car alongside a 545i and the B10 Touring in the photo. It went to the 'ring only once (I mainly took my Ruf or an M3 CSL as they were better suited on the track) and reached 199mph on the way there. It went round in heavy rain with 5 people in it and passed a great deal of much faster cars, since it's all about knowledge there.

I thought it was a great car and miss it. The only thing I found was that it didn't have the adjustable suspension, so whilst it is great for comfort, it got a bit floaty if it was pushed hard on the road.

The previous owner had replaced a Supercharger under warranty and I also had one replaced under warranty (at Vines of Guildford who serviced it), as it blew when my wife was driving the kids to school in it one day. So it's on it's third Supercharger at least!

Enjoy the car, it's a beauty.

I’ve been on the phone to Vines and Lloyd’s and a few others that have seen the car over the years, every main dealer cannot find the carbon there systems only Sytner who had a record of the car visiting in 2013. Do you know wether the car had a person plate on at any point before you owned it?
Had a customer trying to verify the history and because they say they have no records of it visiting any of the dealers it’s steered him away from the car.

The car was on JHC1 prior to my purchase.

He put the car back on the plate that's in my photo. The car definitely went to Vines BMW in Guildford during my ownership with the plate in the photo, for the Supercharger replacement and possibly for other servicing, though I cannot recall.

When I sold the car in 2009 it went with a complete paper data file from day one, of every service, tyre etc.

The problem is that many car dealers take the view that they cannot pass on old paperwork for reasons of Data Protection which is rubbish because they simply need to remove the personal data, but cannot be bothered.

By way of example, the Blue Alpina B10 3.2 Touring in the background of the photo I owned for 7 years and sold with a massive file of history going back to day one. The subsequent owner who bought it from a dealer told me it came to him with zero paperwork - I find this incredibly frustrating.

The B5 does show a consistent MOT history at least from checking at:

https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ViewVehicle

Obviously I have no knowledge of what happened to the car since 2009 though. I think the current owner can obtain previous reg plates from the DVLA.

That’s great thanks for your response, Vines say they have never seen the car, strange I know. Speaking to the service guy at Sytner Nottingham he’s said exactly the same regarding data protection laws, it’s an easy get out not to look into the history for us, although he confirmed the car had been to them.

I’ve got the service booklet as mentioned and like you said it’s stamped up at Vines during your ownership. I’m pretty confident the history is what it says it is in the booklet and I can see a buyers point of view that they can’t verify the history, but I suppose with a little digging and a look over this thread they should have a pritty clear idea of the cars history aswell..

I think a HPI check should bring up previous plate, or at least it used to as I did this on my Range Rover and it brough each one from new.

I really appreciate your reply, thanks again

Superchargers aren't as big a deal as some make out. Alpina often discount them by 50% - they did my last one - and while they do go and you should budget for one going every 4 years or so, it's not a horrifically difficult job to change them. Buyers know they fail, and that they fail regardless of how long they've been in for, so discounting for the possibility one might be needed is a try-on. The Oil filter regime is also now better at most Sytner dealers, although you need to check carefully with specialists, so the main cause of failure has been eliminated too.

Good original B5s have hit the bottom of the depreciation curve, it's one of the last proper Alpinas (mechanically achieved performance and comfort) and it's going to go up in value.
