Dashcams & DAB

Post by Avtar » Mon Jan 15, 2018 3:49 pm

Hi

I was thinking about buying the Thinkware F800 Pro dashcam and am hearing that in some cases dashcams can interfere with or kill DAB in your car, has anyone experienced this?

Thanks

I have a DDPai M6+ and it doesn't seem to cause a problem. I get occasional drop outs on weak stations but not on something like Radio 2. I haven't put that down to the camera.

My only worry with this sort of technology is should you have "pushed it a bit" before an accident that was plainly not your fault it could all backfire when the GPS data & speed log is checked.

I decided that it was not a good idea as the B6s reaches triple figures swith deceptive ease.

dashcam

Post by Norrie » Thu Jan 25, 2018 3:17 pm

I was interested to see a report whereby a person fitted their own dashcam and then was involved in an accident. It then appears the Police took the dash cam and found they were speeding and they were prosecuted.

So I suppose it depends on your driving style - whether it's more likely to help you prove you were NOT speeding or committing another misdemeanour or whether, if found, it could prove you were

The police have no right to take your dash cam.
You are obliged to surrender evidence but only that is directly related to the incident caught on camera so you only need to pass on a 30 second clip

In the case I mention the car crashed, the driver was carted off in an ambulance and did not know what day of the week it was. He was not in a position to argue about his rights.

All good points to consider, my reasons for getting are as follows:

1. To put in the wife’s car as her car has be hit a few times whilst parked and hopefully if it happens again we can catch the culprit.
2. For my car it is more to be used whilst parked a si had a hit and run experience in a car park and luckily there were some goo Samaritans that stuck who got the details of the driver.
3. There just seems to be too many idiots on this the road and if somethings happens it would like some eveidnce.

Thanks guys for your thoughts, always useful

I got mine after watching one of those police programs on TV. A woman had someone turn across in front of her at a crossroads and they collided. Not her fault you'd think but the police intended to prosecute as an eye witness said she was going much too fast. Her dash cam proved she was doing 22mph.

The program then had her (much later) showing the footage to the eye witness who was not at all apologetic that his misjudgement would have had her prosecuted! How many drivers have been penalised on the say so of eye witnesses?

My dashcam shows the speed of travel which clearly isn't helpful in the case of an accident where you are speeding. In addition we have a tracking device and the associated app also shows the speed of the car at any given moment in time so the police could use that as well.
Not that I ever go above the speed limit.

Wow! Close call.

I was coming around a bend Wednesday night and took it steady as it was icy, Alpina performing well on snow tyres, anyway a speeding Land Rover caught my eye in the rear view mirror and next thing he is on the wrong side of the road. Money can't buy driving skill/sense. Tempted to add a rear facing camera as well as the front.

I had my window down and in the vid you can hear me yell at him, I don't know if that stopped him or he saw the car at the last minute but I could see it comming in my wing mirror and 100% thought I was going to see him flying through the air ....

I'm also considering a rear view camera but if I wanted blackvue I'd need to upgrade. However I chose the model I have because it doe not have satnav speed monitoring....

I have the Thinkware F800 pro, front & rear camera. You can, if you want, switch off the speed stamp on the video; of course it would be easy enough to calculate it based on distance/time for the video, if that was needed.

Paid for itself after an unwarranted meeting with a pothole recently, as its difficult to argue a claim with the footage showing date/time and the sudden alerts for tyre pressure, combined with the emergency services callout and on site photos of the damage & pothole.

I was thinking of installing the Blackvue DR750S-2CH Dash Cam. Does anyone have one in their car? If so do share your thoughts please.

I had the BMW dash cam in a previous car which was ok but didn’t allow you to access the recorded footage via a app on your phone.

Thanks
