Are Alpinas classed as Imports?

Post by Philrose » Sat Apr 07, 2018 10:10 am

Having bought my B3S from Sytner Solihull via Nottingham I received my BMW Warranty renewal letter inviting me to extend the warranty. I decided to and rang BMW warranty, as instructed. Took out the warranty but received a message shortly after saying that the policy had been cancelled because the car is an import. Rubbish, thought I, so I rang the warranty company back and spoke to someone else who stated that as the dealer had logged it as an import they couldn't do it - speak to the dealer. So I rang Sytner Solihull and explained the situation and he checked the system and, yes, it's an import but they should still do the warranty. I then got another call from Warranty services which said they had double checked and yes I could have the warranty even though they are classed as imports. Interesting, confusing or what.

From this very site under FAQ

ALPINA FAQ 19:
Is a BMW ALPINA modified or imported

Despite insurance companies telling you this. A BMW ALPINA is neither imported or modified.

ALPINA is recognised a car maker in it's own right and their automobiles are brought into the country just like any other makers cars, such as BMW.

Feel corrected - they're not. :)

Collected mine from Buchloe and drove it home - great journey.
