Rear Control Arms

Post by Abanko » Fri Jan 19, 2018 6:30 pm

Hi. I need to replace the rear upper control arms on the B10 as the bushes are split. I have seen Lemforder mentioned and local indie is suggesting TRW as apparently Lemforder have stopped making that part?? - does it make a difference - except price?

Cheers

Lemforder are still available, I've just had mine replaced along with most of the other arms front and rear,
The part numbers are 13308 02 for the upper straight arm (N/S & O/S) and 13202 02 for the N/S kinked arm and 13203 02 for the O/S one, I sourced mine from:

http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk

Lemforder is one of the ZF group brands, however back in 2015 ZF also bought TRW, I specified Lemforder for my chassis restoration because it's the top quality brand I know and have always used.

In addition I had the rubber bushes in the lower H arms replaced with Powerflex polyurethane replacements (as you can't get the rubber bushes without new arms)
part numbers are PFR5-710-10 for the front bushes and PFR5-711-12 for the ones at the rear of the H arm,
It's made one hell of a difference without any extra road noise, although I did have 4 new Lemforder subframe bushes (p/n 13832 01) fitted at the same time which also helped tighten the back end up. :D

Thanks Steve. I only have an issue with the kinked ones - is it recommended to replace straight ones as well at same time?

The old adage of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' springs to mind, but I'm a fine one to talk having just completely ignored that with all the bits I've just replaced on mine

Seriously though if they are perfectly fine now it's ok to just leave them till they actually need doing, I knew some of mine were past their best as the back end just felt 'loose' when cornering (the car's that is! )

Hope that helps :)
