Why won't my car start? Any ideas

Post by hicky73 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 1:28 am

My D3 has been off the road for the past 3 weeks having suspension jobs done.
Obviously over the cold period the battery went flat so it's been on charge all day and after 15hrs or so I went to see if it would start.
I had the red sign come up on the dash with the pic of the steering wheel yet it wasnt on steering lock. Went to press the start button and nothing, no life from the car ar all. I don't even get the noise from when you insert retract the key fob from the dash. Plus even when the key is out the steering lock wont work and the wheel csn be turned any way without locking. Any ideas guys?

Does the battery need recoding to the car? I wonder if this is mentioned in your car handbook?

Ive had that with another car

Trickle charge is not enough

You need an RAC/AA battery charge kick to start it - hopefully

How did you get on?

This happened on my e92 with the steering wheel light as well.

AA towed it to BMW for a new battery and to reset the steering wheel light.

After a lot of hassle. Too much to explain on here I had to end up buying a new battery, car was recovered to my friends garage and is fitting 2 new coil springs. Key lost its code to the battery so I had a new key Ordered for the car as I only had one and that was done due to my key suddenly loosing the charge and loosing all connection with the car 😠😠😠😠

New key has been inserted and a new battery but still the red steering wheel and padlock and no ignition lights or engine. Key does lock the car tho. Apparently it's a possible EVL or ELV issue which I'm not sure about. The work on the car continues. Now having bottom arms, springs etc. Expensive Jan.
