Before I collected my new D4, I noticed that although the boot had ALPINA and BITURBO on, the D and the 4 were missing. Sytner's body shop put them on for me but after a month I noticed they were coming off. So that I didn't lose them I pulled them off (very easily) and it looks as if they came with an adhesive strip on the back.

I'll need clean this off and also some residue on the boot but can anyone recommend a product (double sided tape?) I can use to reapply them?

3M double sided foam tape. Its what the OEM use.

The issue with what sytners did was not the tape, but because they didn't clean all the contaminants and oils of the car first. you will need to either compound, or clay, then use IPA to remove all the oils and then reapply with fresh 3M tape.

Don't be tempted to buy the cheap stuff, or the fake 3M stuff from eBay that comes from china. It doesn't last and could damage your paint.

Thanks for that. Any idea where I can get some in UK? The price on that Amazon link is a reasonable £15.29. However, the postage is £43.54 - it's in California!

I think halfrauds, B&Q, RS etc do it, there are some reviews of the Halfrauds stuff working well, wouldn't surprise me if it is 3M as they do use very good suppliers for most things.

Oil from them was supplied by Castrol back in 2000

Thanks - an online search didn't throw up any of those! At least, not for that 3M part number - lots of other 3M tapes though.

Not being able to find that 3M part number for sale in UK, in the end I went to my local independent body shop, and, looking hopeful, asked what they used. They produced a large reel of 50mm wide black tape and asked how much I needed  I left with about 3" and after about an hour of cleaning and careful trimming I now have the D4 back on the car and about 2·5" tape left should I need it.

Thanks shaziman - without your advice I'd have probably just used the first tape I came across.
