Fitting new wheel centre emblems

Post by Charles » Wed Aug 16, 2017 2:51 pm

I'm awaiting delivery of four new wheel emblems from Pukar Designs and would appreciate advice on how best to remove the old ones from the centre caps.

Specifically, this is for the Classic II scalloped centre caps with the pivoting emblems that reveal the lock.

Many thanks in advance

Left mine on a hot radiator for a while to soften up the glue and then used an old credit card to remove the emblem.

Brute force method (it works)
Knock/punch a sharp screwdriver in/through the center of the badge and lift

I used a plastic knife to prise the old emblems off. Cleaned up with tar remover, white spirit to then get a clean contact for the new emblems.

Putty scraper, not so harsh and quite forgiving. Warm up as already suggested, slide the putty knife in and then lift. Will come off in one piece too

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I'm tackling this tomorrow and will report back on which method I employed - however I am a little fearful of stabbing them in case I damage the carrier plate.

Having received the lovely shiny replacement emblems today - thanks Kos @ Pukar Designs - I can now see what I am dealing with. I just need to make a note of where the P of ALPINA needs to sit relative to the pin.

More news tomorrow :D

Have you had the body work and front spolier sprayed?
Be good to see some updated pics with the new badges also

Yes. your probably better of using a hairdryer to warm/soften the adhesive and lift with something blunt and plastic

Heat gun and putty knife was the order of the day :D

The key was to dismantle the centre cap first which allowed easier manipulation and meant I could clean the underside of the carrier and the inner section of the centre cap too.

Thanks for all your suggestions - much appreciated :D
