B5 touring for sale 😥
B5 touring for sale 😥
It is with much regret that the B5 touring (E61) no 10 is going up for sale. I really wanted to move upto the F11 which is for sale at Sytner but their pricing seems to be a wee bit out of kilter with what in my opinion is reasonable. So i have bought (ahem) an RS6 and gonna tread the darkside for a bit. I am keeping the B5 plate as will return to the fold one day ( promise !)
The B5 has bern impeccable under my custodianship. I took my turn at 82k and she now sits at 107k which is frankly loosening up mileage ! I work occasionally in Germany and reside in u.k and regularly commute rather than fly as enjoy the drive (790miles) each way. The wife thinks im a sadist !
She comes with full BMW service history to 82k then my mechanics look after her with fastidious care. Recently we have fitted new bushes front and rear. New rear alpina discs and pads. New alpina front shocks. since ive had her Shes had 3 oil and filter changes with BMW parts used. I am attending the Sytner meet and will be more than happy to have a chat about a sale. This is a truly regretful sale as I have had an amazing amount of enjoyment from her. We regularly attend the WEC championship and she has carried us to Spa, Nurburgring and Le Mans for the last 3 years and never missed a beat but always drawers a knowing nod from the crowd. Shes a bit handy on getting us their quickly too!
If I could justify 2 black V8 estates in the house then trust me she would be kept but like a fine time piece she deserves a new owner who will use her and enjoy her as she was made to be enjoyed. Hopefully i can part on good terms to a fellow Alpina enthusiast on this forum. So PM me if you have a serious offer around the 19k mark. But happy to wait and sell to the next right custodian. If anybody requires pictures please let me me know and will email or set up a photo sharing site with details.

Early in its life had the charger changed. But regular oil and filter seem to have kept it running as Alpina intended.
It is sold now but will allow the new owner and forum member the opportunity to advise.

Coming up for sale.. 010 E61 B5 Touring 2005 (again)
Hi All,
Having owned for the last 18 months & thoroughly enjoyed, maintained (Quaife LSD , 4 new Michelins, gearbox oil service, new water pump and oil and required servicing), I am now in the process of preparing this lovely rare car for sale - or selling as is. All servicing and LSD fitting by Phil at CPCE in Amersham.
Current mileage is 114k miles, the MOT is due soon mid Nov, will pop a fresh one on.
Not so good points (which I am in the process of lining up for rectification in the next few weeks, funds permitting!)
- the alloys wheels need refurbishing - (not all 4 need it, but will do all of them)
- the drivers side under knee bolster has come of its gearing (electric motor works)
- the drivers seat base needs de-creasing and side bolster refurbishment
- the bonnet and lower front spoiler have a lot of stone chips, so both will repainted
- the air con needs regassing, due to the full on use over the hot summer
- the windscreen captured a stone chip only two weeks after being replaced (yep I swore a lot when it happened) and is the now the correct HUD compatible windscreen
- the headlights covers are quite aged and will be polished and cleaned up (consistent with high speed driving by the previous owner owner Cook and his fun 20K miles on German Autobahns)
- the front under dash long trim has a chip on a lower edge, but Cook had provided me with a replacement, that I have not got round to fitting
My options are to get all the work done and reflect that in the price, or sell the car as is, and the price reflects the extra work that someone may choose to do in stages as their budgets and time permit.
Can I get some advice on which of the two approaches I should consider taking?
Other then that the car is fantastic to drive, such a great all rounder and held its own on a European trip back in May with 12 other Porsches on a trip to the Nurburgring (yep I had to take it for a couple of laps to earn its sticker!)
The Quaife LSD was bought and fitted specifically for those ring laps, to give me some handling confidence - so they were pretty expensive (but totally memorable as a 1st trip there ) laps.
The car has a E60 M5 steering wheel with paddles which i rather like and the original steering wheel is stored and included
My target pricing is £18,750 (the price I paid for it) as is or likely close to £20,500 after its been spruced up.
The history file is very very extensive indeed and all wallets and keys as received from the previous owner are all in order too.
I sets of Deco Stripes ready to go on, but have not put them on until the stone ships are dealt with or will pass them on to the next owner.
Please PM me if the B5 Touring is of interest, happy to answer any questions.

When I looked at purchasing B5 Touring 056 a few months ago I was offered it for £18k and it was in absolute mint condition and wanted for nothing really.
It was on 99k miles with 3 owners and an impeccable history file.
Had a replacement engine and 'charger that had only covered 60k miles with a £33k bill in the history file.
A B5 Touring is a rare beast but the more modern F10 D5 can be had for a snifter over £20k so it would be very hard to justify a £20k price tag.
At 114k a foolproof warranty is a very difficult and expensive thing to obtain and was the only reason that I did not purchase no 056.
Various proper warranties wanted circa £200/month which is just not an option really
It is only my opinion but if you were to fix all the issues you highlighted then pitch it at £17k and see how you go.
After all Cook had it for sale at £19k 18 months ago.
B5 are nearly at the bottom of the depreciation curve but not quite there yet
Another issue you may face is that there are very few private buyers with that sort of cash burning a hole in a pocket.
As a private vendor not being able to offer finance might mean that a trade sale may be the way to proceed if you do have to shift it on.
Has it had a replacement blower or 2 in its life?
What are you replacing it with ?
Best of luck with the sale

To be fair comparing a D5 to a touring B5 isn’t really like for like. The petrol supercharged variant is a rare and wonderful thing, the diesel though great errs more on the practical side of things when it comes to Alpina and in my humble opinion appeal to different buyers.
You may have backed out of buying a B5 for lack of reasonable warranty but there are plenty of owners here running these cars without one (me included).
As these cars get older you won’t get a warranty that is viable but that doesn’t stop it from being desirable to the right buyer.
These are enthusiasts cars and as such enthusiasts tend to be able to balance the risk/pleasure equation in favour of ownership, for better or worse.

(B5 GMO is the old registration - retained by Cook and rightly so )

My medium term option is possibly storage for winter.
Having been a passenger in this beast of a car its really impressive. They hide their mileage well and are really well made considering many didnt like the changes from the e39. GLWTS

Alpina ownership is more then just costs and figures. My own view as an owner of 6 prior Alpinas is that it’s about the connection I have had with the cars I have had the good fortune to drive and enjoy.
The great thinking I get done when going out for a therapeutic long drive to help me get challenges worked out, is something I find I do best in one of these. Four wheeled therapy chairs.
Hence that to me is worth the costs of keeping a car I enjoy in the best state my budget allows (and yep I always go over!)
Speaking with Charles I was really bowled over by his commitment to his own car and the stellar mileage he has covered with it.
My approach is to have enjoyed as many over the time I can, so that I have memories to compare and contrast that i’ll Keep for when I am to old or not permitted to drive (eyesight, health issues or god forbid a ban again!)
A simple philosophy towards Alpina driving and ownership that keeps me content
I am confident there are many others on the board that can relate to the above too ! Even at the prospect of parting with one Alpina to in due course create space for the next as and when.
