Soooo today, some tailgate action. I've not been too great with the camera as well i'd kind of forgot
more grimness once i'd removed the little plastic panel. They all start to rust here
Old one off, its not actually that heavy so i did it on my own. You have to disconnect the loom from everything in tailgate and then un thread it from the tailgate. Its not hard but its part of the cars loom and i did search for a plug but the loom hides off down the d pillar. So this seemed the easiest only way to me.
I'd never washed the shut lines around here i should of got a picture as it was minging.
Tailgate on, again wasn't too bad on my own
I've taken the weather strip off 318i and tailgate struts as both were alot better than i had. I'm nicking it all!
I've given it a good squirt of some 3m cavity type wax i have. See if it helps, i'm sure it won't hurt!
more nicking, no need to guess on this one which came from which car
Linnig the bloody panel up was a bit of a pain on my own and i'm still not quite happy with it but it opens and shuts nicely now and isnt wonky. But nothings ever perfect!
I said to my missus about the 318i badge now, she reckoned no one will be paying much attention at all. Charming, i don't think any car type people will be fooled!
Then repeat all this on the 318i. I need to buy a new rear washer jet x2 as i destroyed both

If you do decide to transfer the B3 and Alpina badges, line them up the way they should be. Mine are as new, so if you need dimensions, just shout!

Its the little 10 inch sub Dave! It was in there when i bought the car and all the OE speakers are gone and original amp. Its all aftermarkets in there bruv. Another job to sort out for another day
Does tailgate match? I don't know tbh as the 318i is clean and the B3 was last washed in May i think I've just been out on a motorway jaunt tonight collecting some parts for the M5 and the roads are filthy so the tailgate is now blending in nicely with the rest of it i think. I think its going to end up just dandy
Also from my house to Bicester is a very easy journey? There certainly was. Home? De tour from the guys house due to roundabout road works. Get on M40 all fine sign saying shut from j8a to 6. Ok i'll get off and go the A34/M4 way home. On A34 get to M4 - you geussed it, Fucking shut. Oh ok i'll now have to drive into Newbury and on the A339 to basingstoke and get on the M3 to get home. Total jokes. And well the M3 is one big long 6 months running late roadwork fest.
Rant over, and i ran out of washer fluid aswell

Sooooooooo, as always lousy excuses! Went a bit on the back burner as i got distracted with the E30 which isn't a bad thing as its always bottom of the list or has been
It was obviously a day where we had lots of random rain!
I've done all 4 doors now but need to finish off a few things like swapping all the regualtors over as the donor doors are windy windows not electric but on the whole not too bad, minor tweeking off my door strickers has got some excellent shut lines, plus these doors open and shut so smooth, the old doors where always a bit stiff these just glide shut, plus no knackered door handle mechanisms!
I even found some rust on the bloody petrol flap so i've swapped that!
I've also had to rebuild my drivers door lock as it was kaput, a quite fiddly but satisfying job. You can buy this rebuild kit from the dealers for about£20. All the bits are numbered so take your old barrel apart lay them out in number order and then build the new one up in the correct order and voila! bit of oil and bobs your uncle
Current progress is this nice council shot, swapping the wings nose cones and bonnets over. My wings where well shot with tin worm, this poor 318i is going to look a right state!
So its currently a contest to either have this in a reasonable state or the E30 to take to sytners meet in April. I'd like it to be the E30 which has finally ran moved under its own steam but is now in bits again!

Danke,
So last installment she and the driveway was looking all rather council! I've not taken anywhere near enough pictures but i've finished this all off tonight panel wise finally
Putting the front all back together its always had a doggy bonnet catch and these are supposed to be a major major ball ache to change if they break. So some cable ties! alot of WD40 cleaning and re greasing has got the latches moving freely again for now
I've had the front spoiler bumper repainted it had alot of war scars like all alpina spoilers pick up in daily use but no proper damage like any cracks to it
its not 100% perfect match but i had it pained off the car so my fault
I removed the stripes with a hair dryer on the rear quarters like Simon said to do, pain of a job! Then thought about getting the wheels refurbed
They've had the full Lepsons treatment and i went for the sparkle finish later Alpina alloys come with which isn't correct but they look fantastic. Lepsons are still churning out very nice work in my eyes
Shes looking really well, so just the rusty rear arches to do next but driving aswell as ever. I finishes swapping the rear window regulators over today. They're riveted in on E36s and my donor doors were wind up. So i've had to swap all 4 regualtors over drill them all out and swap door looms also.
Its been alot of work not perfect but need a marathon clean up for Sytners next week. My plan was E30 but thats going well but not enough to bring out to play next year!

Flipping heck, as they say, you don't do work by halves do you. She's looking very well, what happens at the end, originally you were trying to sell her, bet you can't part now though😓😓
Cheers
