Alpina Emblems for Wheel Covers on E39 18" Softline All

Post by PliSsK » Wed Jun 29, 2016 6:17 pm

Hi there, I've lost the Alpina Emblem from the Front Offside Wheel Cover on the 18" Softline Alloy on my 2001 E39 B10 V8. The part number for a replacement is B91.47.3.613.005 which I'll likely source from the stealer.

Do these emblems come with a self-adhesive backing or do you need to glue them on yourself with a suitable shock-resistant rubber glue? There is some old adhesive or similar in the hollow where the old emblem sat which I'll need to remove. Any tips on doing this? A wire brush or similar? Masking tape around the edge I'm assuming would help mitigate against any scratches.

Are the emblems easy to prize off? I am thinking about maybe replacing the other 3 emblems if they aren't too hard to get off the wheel covers.

Any input is appreciated. Cheers.

They are self adhesive and you can buy them here. Better quality than OEM.

Thanks for the heads up. Is the colour tone and detailing the same? I guess you replaced all 4 of yours in one go.

I have not used them myself. But a lot of the guys here have them fitted and very happy with the results. Apparently they look exactly like the OEM badges. Just that they are more durable.

And yes, I would advise changing all four together. After all, they are only £30 for the set.

Oh I see, thanks! For some reason I'd assumed it was the price per emblem, not for all 4. I think that's cheaper than buying the official item from the stealer. Thanks again.

I purchased the Pukar ones and the quality is 110%. Been on the car for 3 years and no signs of fading and they get pressure washed weekly and no water ingress. Alpina should sign him up !

Another vote for Pukar here. I've 2 sets on my winters and Classics, both outlasted the new Alpina items I bought at first.

Only trouble is the website ordering is down you need to email:

Thanks for the input everyone. When it comes to preparing the area before attaching the new emblems, do you clean it up at all or just stick them straight on? Cheers.

Any residue that is left should be cleaned off first. Methylated Spirit is a very good cleaning agent for that kind of thing. It can be used on just about any surface without causing damage. A great additive for you washer bottle during the winter months as well

I didn't see any old adhesive in that spot. The old badge had been on for 15 years. Is this section of the wheel cover painted or is it bare metal? The surface was not smooth and felt slightly rough. I was wondering whether I should sand it down or not but decided against it and just rubbed it down with a methylated spirits soaked cloth, which made a slight difference but ended up with some grey colour in the cloth. Stuck the badge on and left it 24 hours and now seems alright. This was probably good enough but want to check for when I replace them all when I get the wheels refurbed. Cheers.

I should imagine it would be painted. The roughness is probably the old adhesive, even though you cant see it. Especially as you say it felt smoother after using meths.

You would have thought so as with bare metal there it might allow corrosion down the sides of the badge. If it had been bare metal, I doubt rubbing it would have made the cloth go grey so quickly. Rubbing it with meths made it slightly smoother but not by that much.

Not sure what else to suggest without seeing it myself.

Sorry, I was about to say just that, I should have taken a photo of it earlier. Too late now as the badge is on. When I remove the others when I get the wheels refurbed, or if any others fall off, I'll take some pics. Cheers.
