Alpina B5S - genuine alloy query
Hey all,
New to the forum as I've just fulfilled a lifetime ambition and bought her myself an Alpina - a B5S. I'm a Brit but living out in the UAE - the car is a 2009 model, first registered new here in 2011. One fastidious owner, 45,000km and full BMW Alpina service history - I'm thrilled!
Then, tonight, on the way home from a friends house, some a@@ehole in a Merc on his phone changed lane without warning and I took evasive action, clipping the kerb with the rear near side wheel (my near side as its left hand drive).
I'm gutted by the damage to the wheel - it seems structurally fine but cosmetically it's awful - and, living where I do, I don't trust anyone to refurb it. I'm hence facing buying a replacement alloy.
Does anyone have any idea what sort of money an original B5S 20" rim would cost from a main dealer back in the UK, or the cheapest way to buy an original new (or immaculate used) rim? My parents are flying out in 2 weeks and, if much cheaper in the UK, I may get them to bring it with them for me if I can source one in time.
Gutted, absolutely gutted. I need a beer...
Steve

Hi,
Many thanks - yes, the car was supplied new by Abu Dhabi Motors and was actually only in there last week getting serviced - I hope to give them a call on Saturday as they're closed tomorrow (Friday here is like Sunday in the UK).
I was hoping however to get a guesstimate for the same part in the UK; parts here can be horrendously expensive.
Do you have any idea of the sort of price this would be in the UK?
Many thanks!

Not as expensive as here where BMW UK apply their usual 4 million % mark-upfogster74 wrote:I was hoping however to get a guesstimate for the same part in the UK; parts here can be horrendously expensive
Have you considered fitting a spare (of some derivative) and shipping the damaged wheel to one of our trusted locations over here - a couple of weeks of the car not looking the part but surely cheaper than a new wheel?

At this point I'd happily consider all options - the car is our second car and we could manage without it for a few weeks! What's the cost of a new wheel likely to be, and what would a refurb cost?
Trust me, prices here are exorbitant compared to the UK. Wiper blades for our Volvo were £70 for parts alone!!!

The trouble with a single wheel refurb is colour match. Been there, done that.
Better off checking out a new wheel. The link above for Alloy Wheels Direct is a good start.

I'm thinking of replacing the centre caps whilst I'm at it, and will get both rear tyres changed at the same time.
Thank you all!!
