The D3 Touring does well, but I am surprised it didn't do better. I regularly see high 40s mpg at 70 mph and never tried hitting 150 mph in a limited distance but it feels seriously rapid to 100+.
Did they have the handbrake on?!?

how on earth did they only manage 43.7mpg at a steady 60mph when I can get 36mpg at double the speed.
I can easily get 50+mpg doing 60mph, I imagine if I stuck it in EcoPro mode then i'd get a lot higher a return. All I can imagine is that their 60mpg wasd from cold and the mpg also included the standing start 150mph shoot.

I managed a tank in the B5S at 30mpg - and I was cruising and more than 60mph. The nerdy side of me fancies doing a long motorway run at 60mph to see what it actually would do - I can see it doing 35mpg - after all the Alpina Roadster clocked 41mpg doing a similar testPaulb wrote:how on earth did they only manage 43.7mpg at a steady 60mph when I can get 36mpg at double the speed.

As you I'd expect a D3 to be returning well into the 50s at 60mph

I thought I'd run my own economy test today. So on the A50 I set the cruise to 60mph, reset the MPG then let it run for 2 miles along the flat road. Ok it was raining quite heavy, I'm runn on winter tyres and it was 8 degrees outside but, I still managed 67.5mpg over the 2 miles
So it raises the question of what were they doing to get such poor figures.
As a comparison is earlier done the same through the roadworks on the M6 but at 54mpg, uphill all the way and managed just under 50mpg. So either their test track has a steep incline for 2 miles or they just fudged it!

I had 34.8.and 35.7 out off the B5 on two traffic heavy trips.dodgyken wrote:I managed a tank in the B5S at 30mpg - and I was cruising and more than 60mph. Both times the trip computer was reset while parked on the drive before setting off and both times it read 37.6 before coming to rest on the same drive at the end of the trip.
Had it not been for 2 miles of complete stop traffic jam.on the first trip and an SL55 Merc on the second I'm sure I would have had an average around 36mpg.
Here's a video of the test ran yesterday.

You can see i've set cruise at 60mph, then reset the fuel mpg and let it run for 2 miles.

There is definitely something wrong with the Autocrat test. The Tog Gear tester averaged 42mpg over the test and I know he wasn't driving along at a steady 60mph ...
I wonder if they didn't reset the trip properly and mixed the economy run with some fast driving?

When I first tried to do the test, I reset the trip twice, but the second also changed the ave MPG to the current mpg, I only noticed in the pics later when the Fuel Pump symbol was missing. Could be that they just took the reading at the end of the run without realising it was the wrong figure.
Either way, it's very flawed.
