OK so the M3 / S4 or Evo / Impreza fight - which one ?
Loyalty first...
OK, so I had to go for the Alpina on the grounds that it is better dynamically than the Audi and Volvo as well as being as quick from A to B as an M3 (actually it is quicker according to Evo magazine but I don't want to upset all the M3 drivers out there) and much more comfortable with it.
Don't have too much experience of the Impreza and Evo, but from what I can tell, they go very quickly but lack a certain something - not sure what, but something is missing. Perhaps if they came with regular sessions to the chiropractor then that might swing it, but recent reports show that fuel economy is a big issue (particularly with the Evo).
The Monaro looks like fun but, again, refinement comes into the equation and the Holden (sorry, Vauxhall) appears to be a lot of grunt without too much finesse.
So, for allround driveability and comfort and useability, my choice still goes to Alpina.
HOWEVER, my very nice friend is about to lend me an Evo VIII FQ whatsit for a couple of days......
