Post by Bob » Sun Jan 26, 2020 1:37 am

Seems like this one can’t catch a break. Another accident, rear ended this time.

I suspect this one was never sold after the first repair.

It is the same Salvage place selling again and it was due it’s first MOT in Oct-19, but that’s still overdue. Also, the last V5 change was Apr-18 (before it was ever advertised with damage). So there was only a month or so from the last advert to the MOT expiring, maybe the salvage place crashed it?

Either way, probably easier to avoid it now.

I suspect you're right. Looks like Direct Salvage repaired it and then used it, before it once again came under fire. Poor car. Wonder how a double CatD or CatS affects insurance. I'm sure I recall that you can't insure a car that's been written off a number of times. Might be 3 strikes and your out?

If it was damaged the second time whilst in Salvage Direct’s care, it may not go through insurance so no additional marker

It's not far from me. Is the damage there mostly cosmetic?
-bumper
-tailgate
-exhausts

It's on Gumtree too https://www.gumtree.com/p/bmw/2016-66-r ... 1364619672

I wonder how much to put it back on the road.

£18,495.00 might be ambitious. Thoughts>?

I'd say theres a bit more than your list, plus the first smack was nasty, lots of bend suspension bits

A better bet for 18k would of been the Alpina green one recently with 1 owner and 90k on it. I'd take a straight higher milege car than this myself. I appreciate the other cars sold but i'd wait if it was me as they sold a decent amount of F31 D3s iirc by UK alpine touring standards!

As Simon said, you want to be checking the quality of the original repair job and I’d worry about the wheels on passenger side, both look like they’ll have taken a knock in the original damage.

Also:
- How is the damage classified and how many times?
- Were Alpina parts used in the original repair if required?
- Don’t forgot there will be a premium for all the Alpina parts needed: exhaust, diffuser, etc

I agree with that. I believe the green D3 sold almost instantly. That would have been a great buy. I would have bought it myself. This was more of a train of thought. Not many D3 estates for sale.

And you're right - The first crash looked ugly.

There were 64 D3 Tourings sold (31 LCI's) so comparatively, there are quite a few out there.
And during 2019, 18 of them were offered for sale, so assuming you are patient they do come up.

That is good intel, actually. Thanks.

I plan to upgrade from my E90 D3 to an F31 - To be fair if mine had been automatic and estate I would keep it but needs must.
