Thing is though, finding a petrol Alpina Touring means you can pretty much name your price, and I suspect that's what's happening here with the B3S.

All depends on the right buyer being out there and how much they want a car.

Having said that, this car is not worth this amount, in my humble opinion!

Of course, but to a point, if you know what I mean? How often have we seen that Tourings change hands without even coming on the market. They are unique and sort after cars for sure.

This is true, and I purchased under the radar as it was sellers' desire to do so. I named a price which was beneficial to the seller of #127 and he readily accepted as a) I wanted the car and b) to respect the seller, who is a friend. My named price was in excess of 50% above a trade in valuation and reflected these points. If I were to offer it for sale now, I have no idea how little would be offered, but in practical terms I don't really care.

Also, I wasn't actively seeking a touring: either a saloon or touring was my target as I simply didn't want a coupe/cabrio as the doors are too long for me! It's unlikely the practicality if the touring body of #127 will ever be actively used here as the Focus is a tourer and does all the dirty jobs. In its previous keepers' hands, it was the same: he used alternative tip/dog transporter when required.

Realistic pricing would be about £12-14k depending on private/trade/warranty etc.

B3S Touring prices have been quietly rising by a little bit each year for several years - and currently sit around the £12.5-13k mid point.

However, with a total population of only 8 in the UK, such a small sample size means the potential for wildly different outliers (statistically speaking).

Spot on.
Even more difficult with cars of lower sample size, and often it's just a simple buyers' desire that seals a valuation point. One would expect any 'outliers' to be exceptional, low mileage examples. At 105k, this doesn't meet the low miles criteria (it is for year, but not in a garage queen sense). I'd do my own condition appraisal rather than be led by the advertiser.

Thing is out of the 8 tourings at least 4 are over 100k milege. Charles is in the lead 300k+ mine is on 155k They've been used. This car is on similar milege to the lovely black on extended red leather wagon.

I've had E30,E36,E46 or been lucky enough to own each variant touring in alpina flavour. I didn't advertise the E30 or E36 just put the word out. The E30 had 220k on the clock and the E36 nearly 250k.

If you get hung up on milege your not going to own one when they are 10+ years old! Tourings get used and tend to cover the most milege as they're the best :o

Didn't a black B3S Touring sell from a dealer for around £14k in 2016?
It's nigh on impossible to keep the miles off them as they are such good damn cars.
I try and do low miles but even #108 after 9 years of ownership with me is about to turn 110k miles. I bought it with 88k and have always had the choice of at least 2 other vehicles to help keep the miles down.
They do love to be driven though

Yes it did :D

For the record, I clocked up 323,000 miles this morning but, as Simon says, this is just a number if the car has been well maintained. Sure, at that mileage, certain parts (both ALPINA and BMW) have been replaced that no-one would normally expect to replace but, having been done, they are now good for another 250-300k miles.

Maintenance items are the same as any 330i and the bigger ticket items such as ALPINA suspension come with the car and the cost of running one.

The only real PITA is the head gasket which, given my annual mileage of 20k miles, comes round every 4 years or so. However, if like me, you are into the car for the long run, the £1600 bill every four years is £400 per year - which makes it almost sound acceptable

For those who are still hung up on mileage, ask yourself this - would you prefer a pampered garage queen that sits around for long periods of time and gets an occasional short run or something that is loved to within an inch of its life yet given every opportunity to bring a smile a mile wide to its driver every time it fires up?

My old car 8)

Its a great car, and good to see its still in excellent shape.
I agree with Charles on the price, but good luck to the seller - after all try finding another!

I live in New Zealand now, and its such a shame they have strict import restrictions on older vehicles as i wanted to bring it over

The ad for this has now been removed. Wonder if it actually found a new owner?

Yes still have it. I start it up and drive it round the block each time in back visiting my parents.
I'd love to bring it over to NZ, but the import restrictions are tricky to say the least....

ps - You are doing a fantastic job of the C2 2.7 restoration, must be very satisfying!!
