Carbon coated exhaust tips

Post by paulbraden2010 » Sat Apr 07, 2012 10:34 am

As i am beginning the detailing of my newly acquired B10, spent a couple of hours just getting the glass back to clean, the mrs thinks I am crackers!

Anyway the exhaust tips, i don't believe that they have ever been cleaned. SO are covered in carbon deposits, I know that I will have to use a metal polish, my megs stuff is not abrasive enough to remove the carbon deposits.
Therefore, are there any tips for breaking down the carbon deposits before I get intop polishing them?

Thanks

I normally use Autosol metal polish with some G101 to do the trick

Very fine wire wool (#00 I think) and autosol is what you need for the job, elbow grease will also be needed.

Have you tried alloy wheel cleaner on the exhaust tips?

Hi,
Another alternative that does work on very stubborn deposits is brake fluid used sparingly on a cloth but with gloves on.
