E38 - Wheel options

Post by HotSpur » Sun Jan 07, 2024 1:02 pm

On a e38 restoration - looking at:

Reducing ride height by 50mm Front and 50mm Rear with H&R Stage 2 Springs
At the same time replacing the shocks with Bilstein B4's to ensure ride is not harsh - it is an old school 7 after all
Then finally replacing the alloys - looking at 18" C96, or 20" C94/95 or perhaps 21" C01 - unsure due to:

Whether:
a - there will be sufficient clearance for the 21's following the 2" lowering
b - going from 18" to 20" or 21" would ruin the ride quality, conventional wisdom suggests it should, but then many run 20 and 21's on e38's and unless I am mistaken, Alpina did supply the e38 with both options from new, thus surely it can't be that bad?

@ Moderators - apologies if this is not the right section to post this query in - feel free to move

Thanks for any thoughts, insights and advice.

the b12s ride ok on 20's but they aren't as low as you want to go. I wouldn't fit 21's personnally. The 20's look big on an e38 even by todays standards

I expect an e38 with smaller wheels will ride alot better on 18's but you probably know that aswell
