Part Wrapping the D5

Post by D3orbust » Tue Mar 29, 2016 8:13 pm

Unfortunately the local birds (feathered kind) have took a liking to the roof of the D5 and regularly use it for target practice when my wife picks up the kids from school.

Before any permanent damage is done I'm thinking about having the roof and wing mirror covers wrapped in gloss black to match up with the exterior high gloss trim, I'm also toying with the idea of having the boot opening wrapped in a clear colour to avoid any scratches that might occur taking the pram in and out.

The question is, does the 'shark fin' have to be left as it is or will it be ok to wrap that too, the d5 has DAB Radio and the professional multimedia package.

Thanks.

As an alternative have you looked at ceramic coatings? Many claim to be hard enough to withstand bird poo, minor scratches and make the car easier to clean as less dirt sticks to the panels.

It had Gyeon MOHs applied last August after I bought the car from GuyW, I'm not sure what the birds around here are eating but it has slightly etched into the Clearcoat through the coating, which is easy enough to to remove with a machine polish etc but I haven't got the time nowadays.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Given the beautiful colour of the Deep Sea Blue, I would go with the Paint Protection Film (clear) on the roof and the boot sill.

I have the front and boot sill of my new B3 wrapped in it, and it is invisible and indestructible! Indeed the photo in my profile is the car at the details after the film has been applied.

Xpel and Suntek are the best two to consider.

I'd be surprised if the wrap would have an effect on the signal. Give it a go and it could always be removed if wrapped individually to the roof. If you went for a clear wrap then I wouldn't bother wrapping the fin anyway.

I think CF would look good but is that getting a bit too 'M'?!

Thanks for the replies.

I did consider CF but I thought it would look out of place on an F10.
