E46 B3 Tyre sizes

Morning all

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere - I'm struggling to narrow down a search using 'B3' and 'E46'.

I've got an E46 B3 3.3 coupe, built in 2000. It's currently got 4 different tyres on (which is driving me crazy). As two of them are approaching the end of their lives I want to swap the lot, probably to Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, which I have had good experience of in the past.

My question relates to sizes. Currently the fronts are 225/40/18 and the rears are 255/35/18. The differing profile measurements confused me a little, as did the fact that the front tyre size I've listed does not appear on the sticker near the driver's door latch plate. Could any B3 owners with cars of a similar vintage let me know what size tyres they are running?

Same car also 2000 but saloon (I assume no difference in tyres), is exactly as you state -225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear. Only difference is this is the indicated size on the drivers door (the top set of numbers).

Paul,

Same spec for my B3S Touring:

Fronts - 225/40/18
Rears - 255/35/18

Would be interested to know your experiences with the Vredesteins as I have always stuck to Michelin Pilot Sports (the originals rather than the PS2 design).

No problem, will let you know. I had some fitted to my old Jag XJR (which liked to get through tyres) and I found them to be pretty good, especially given the price. I've been quoted Â£105 for fronts, Â£128 for rears from my local indie for the B3.

How much are the Vreiwhatevers out of interest? Alternative recommended tyres are Falken FK452 (cheap) and Goodyear Asymetrics (quiet)

Hello again.

Have had the Vredesteins fitted for a couple of weeks and pretty happy with them.

Â£105 each for the fronts, Â£128 for the rears, took an hours worth of faffing to set up the alignment but I suspect that's because the previous owner had been a bit lax at kerb avoidance (wheels getting refurbed tomorrow!)

Hard for me to compare the performance of these tyres to others on the Alpina because I haven't had it that long and when I first bought it each corner had a different brand on. However, road noise levels are fine, grip appears ok in the dry and has made it off the line without dramatically triggering the TC in the wet. For the money spent I'm content. Will let you know how they wear over the next few months.

I have a pair of the Vredensteins on the back of my B3S saloon - very happy with them so far and they have quite an attractive and unusual tread pattern, designed by Guigiaro. Cost was Â£134 each fitted and balanced, etc.
No noticable drop in perfomance compared to the Michelins and will have some fitted on the front in a month or two.
I have also used Avon ZZ tyres with good results in the past on my 328 and 330M but the Vredensteins were the same price and were on the shelf so I decided to try them out.
My only concern will be wear rate - I got 30k out of the Michelins but they are double the price

Bizarrely asda is showing the 255 tyres as available rav not sure when you start to put payment in if it may then say not available but to me it says they are now

I know this is an oldish thread but tyre prices must have gone down. On OPENO the 225 ver€%* are £64 and Michelin £95
