so im looking for a d3 and upon doing a= n mot history check i notice some say alpina and some say bmw anyone know the reason and the whys ???? any help appreciated ,thanks

If done correctly by the MOT station, then they should have used the ALPINA VIN as that is the correct one for the car. The BMW VIN refers to the original donor car and is superseded by the ALPINA one in every respect apart from checking the BMW system for original car parts.

However, laziness or lack of knowledge means that many MOT testers use the BMW one which makes it a right PITA to track exactly what's been done/found (as you are discovering).

I always check that the tester knows to use the ALPINA VIN - the only time it was done wrongly was at BMW North Oxford. They did correct it immediately, though.
