Geneva 2009 marked the World Premiere of the new BMW ALPINA B7 Bi-Turbo. Based on the brand new F01 7 Series. The car features a bi turbo 4.4-litre engine producing 500 bhp (507 PS) and 516 lb ft (700Nm). 0-62mph is quoted as 4.7 seconds and a electronically limited top speed of 174mph.

ALPINA has already started production and we can expect 1 or 2 cars to make their way to the UK later in the year.

A breakdown of the enhancements made to the B7 are:
  • Pistons by Mahle
  • Increased capacity intercoolers
  • Front furniture honed for air flow
  • Front Spoiler, Side Skirts, Boot lid lip and rear splitter
  • Drivetrain strengthened
  • Brakes are high performance ones that are optional on V8 and V12 engined cars.
  • ALPINA quad exhaust traditional design (compared to the B3 Bi-Turbo which had floating tips) this means they will expand (and protrude more when hot)
  • B7 specfic suspension settings (multiple)
  • B7 specific transmission programming

Geneva 2009 also marked the World Premiere of the ALPINA B6 GT3. Signalling the return to racing for ALPINA, the car will be racing in this years GT3 Championship. Under the rules of GT3 each manufacturer is allowed two teams each running two cars. ALPINA will be running a two car team and another (yet to be announced team) will also be running in the season.

The Season starts in England (Silverstone) on 3rd May 2009, before visiting:
  • Italy (Adria) - 17th May
  • Germany (Oschersleben) - 21st June
  • Portugal (Algarve) - 13th September
  • France (Paul Ricard) -4th October
  • United Arab Emirates (dubai) - 14th November

The B6 GT3 car uses exactly the same engine as found in the B6 S road car. Although it runs substantially different induction and exhaust systems and as such should produce well in excess of the B6 S road car. Which itself produces a not shoddy 523bhp (530ps) and 535 lb ft (725 Nm). The engine in the GT3 actually sits further back in the chassis than the road car, which not only helps provide the room for the induction systems, but also shifts the weight within the wheel base. Finally factor in the extreme aerodynamics and this should be a very competitive car.

Also being displayed on the stand alongside the two premieres was a striking White B3 Bi-Turbo Allrad touring. Combining white paint, silver stripes and a black roof. The car is actually a customer's car and due to get Black Classics (similar in colour to the optional Black wheel that was launched with the new B7 Bi-Turbo).
