Review:The perfect holiday ? A 380bhp 5 series Alpina, French highways and byways, and an Audi RS4 that wants to play.

On the train to France - in a carriage with an Audi TT and a BMW 330i watching how the 3 cars ride, both cars are bouncing as the train speeds along - 'The B10's just chilling: 1744kg disciplined by spectacular damper control.

'hadn't expected the B10 to feel as quick as a 456 GT I wrung down this very stretch last year. But it does'.

After passing a swiss-registered RS4, the choice was to 'dice or cruise?' - a choice made at 125mph….. The Audi RS4 has 380 bhp and is a perfect match or the B10. At th next toll boths and the cars get next to each other. The RS4 beats the B10 to 100mph but then the B10 bites back and is soon passing the Audi. 'this Alpina works way beyond accepted super-saloon parameters'. However it's not all good news - something goes wrong on a 110mph right hander - the rear end goes numb - the cause the inside tyre wall has got so thin it's like latex !!

The switchtronic gear box works better in drive - and with the gear lever rather than the steering wheel mounted switches.

M5 vs. B10 ?

'Comes down to 1 small point: is the B10 a better sportster than the M5 is a cruiser ? Yup. Does that make the B10 better than the M5 ? Yes…. But for it's price £2950 more expensive as standard - with options, the car being tested is £67k !!

'This is without doubt almost the most endearing super saloon I've driven And, yes I did say almost.
